The Mountain House: Afters ✨️

Today we completed our first painting project in Hunter, NY that was only 2 minutes away from Hunter Mountain Resort! ⛷️

This was a brand new modular home that was put up last March with cracks in almost every corner from the foundation settling, 100s of drips and roller marks from when the builders primed the walls, nail pops, millionnnsss of little craters in the walls from the original builders (that no one on my crew could see but me apparently 🤣) , ceiling trim on the 17' high wall that was never stained along with the ceiling...it had it all!

We patched, taped, caulked, sanded, and primed and painted the Living Room/Dining/kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and 2 bedrooms and stained the trim to match the ceiling in the living room.

Thank you to my incredible and appreciative customer Patrick for trusting us with his business after finding us on thumbtack and my amazing team for helping me meet my deadline right on time tonight (6pm on the dot! 😁). I'm looking forward to getting the day off tomorrow so I can get myself ready and packed for my week long ski vacation in Vail, Colorado on Saturday!

We love when our customers ask us to use planet and people friendly products that we have never used before!

For this project we used 's authentic Pine Tar and Linseed oil (50/50 mix) which not only brought out the wood's natural wood grain like any conventional semi-transparent stain would but since pine tar is a natural it protects any wood surface it's applied to from fungus, mold, and rot.

Wood tar was first recorded to be used by ancient Mesopotamians over 7000 years ago on boats and ships.

For present day applications, it can not only can it be used on porches and decks but it can be applied to wood siding and...for any of my farmer friends reading this it can even be used on your raised garden beds!

(Although I would warn you that it stinks up the high heavens and can stain your skin and clothes! (scroll to the bottom for a pine tar cleaning tip from a pro)

Sage restoration' # pine tar comes in several colors for additional UV protection than the traditional variety.

And for those of you who read my previous post, it took us 6 tools and 30 man hours to complete this project from start to finish (26 hours in prep alone).

Tar cleaning tip from a pro: Use as a miracle pine tar spot remover! I wasnt sure if it wasn't going to work but after 3 applications (letting it completely dry each time) it not only saved me from throwing away my favorite shirt and painters whites but the stains completed disappeared! 🤯

Hint: Started with a grinder and finished with 120 grit sandpaper

Here are some work in progress photos from before my crew and I started painting the walls for our customer in Olivebridge today!

And the best part?

There was NO need for dust masks because there wasn't any drywall dust!

Since we switched to using 180 and 220 on our connected to a at the beginning of 2022 we haven't needed to wear a dust mask EVEN when we repair ceilings (yes that's how little dust there is 😎)!

(Note: I would HATE my job and would have never started a painting business if I didn't have a dustless sanding system!)

The only dust and other messes at our jobs come from having to

1) scrap out old silicone caulk like we did for all of the windows in this customers kitchen, living and dining rooms 🤦‍♀️(this is a big no-no - they should have used latex!)

and

2) As a result of using Festool for sanding down any old repairs that weren't sanding properly, and all of the brush marks and paint drips from the previous paint jobs.

And not to mention the bumps in the sheetrock, the roller lap marks AND nail pops...OH MY!

This job had it ALL!

But not anymore! 😬

Now the ceilings and walls are ALMOST perfect (unfortunately you can still see some of the bumps where the sheetrock is on the load bearing walls but they are MUCH less noticable than before)! ✨️✨️✨️✨️

Other contractors have 🙄 and thought we were insane for doing this but the most important tools we use to prep a job are...

Our and !

(Our founder's neck & shoulders have a hate/love relationship with the fact that she is the usually the one sanding however that's for another post! 🤣)

When you hire , you aren't just paying for our crew to slap paint over the last painters sh*tty (pardon my french) half ass job(s).

What you get left with is as close to perfection as humanly possible! ✨️

This customers house had it ALL: paint drips and nail pops EVERYWHERE, uneven sheetrock, repairs that were never sanded or primed before being painted over... you name it.

But it's nothing that we can't make disappear with a LOT of labor (and burning shoulders)! 🔥 💪🏿

Our system was our founders first 💸 investment in her business 5 years ago when she was still painting for friends & family on weekends and she hasn't EVER regretted it!

Yes so maybe we do go a littleee above and beyond for our customers but to us, there's NO other way. THIS is what sets us apart from the "others."

We used to not charge enough for our services because we thought this process was normal. It wasn't until recently that our founder, Ashley, FINALLY realized how rare it was to find a painting contractor who 1) uses a dustless sanding system and 2) sands BEFORE and AFTER ever picking up a taping knife!

But after she worked with other contractors in the MHV and discovered she was ALWAYS the only one who had a Festool...

She started to see that what she offers at Peace Painters is different. So she decided to stop calling us painters and to start calling us what we ACTUALLY are:

REFINISHERS! ✨️✨️✨️

She used to question if she was charging her customers too muchbut now she realizes that they all actually got MORE than what they paid for!

Once you factor in the alternative which would include the cost of renting a dumpster, purchasing & installing all new materials (and not to mention the environmental impact of throwing away all of the old materials!)

What we offer is a BARGAIN! 🪙

You Say Paint...And We Say How High[end]?

What You See: Beauty 😍

What You Don't See/Know:

1) That it took ~4 GALLONS of compound to get those ceilings and walls to looks like ✨️brand new✨️ sheetrock! (And in case you're wondering most of it was used on the ceilings! 🥵)

2) That there was VERY minimal dust thanks to our and tools, the best (and most expensive) dust free sanding systems in the industry! 😬

3) How many nailpops and paint drips we made completely disappear (Fun fact: High-end painters like us are actually magicians in disguise! 🪄)

Ok ok so maybe our standards (and prices💸) at are a bit too "high-end" for the majority...

Which is why in 2023 we will only work for customers who truly understand the artistry and skill it takes to be masters in our field.

No shortcuts.

At peace painters, we are artists.

If you want to hire handymen (or woman) then go look elsewhere.
..but with that said, you can bet that our standards still weren't as high as the stairway ceiling! 😉
