You don’t need to finish your entire house at once.

You don’t need to buy something just to fill the space.

You’re allowed to live with an empty wall.

You’re allowed to change your mind.

Your home doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s.

Take your time. Make it yours.

Consider this permission to stop rushing your home.

The best-designed homes do not scream for attention. Instead, they quietly get everything right in a way that feels effortless and natural. The cabinet hardware feels balanced and intentional, the lighting is warm and inviting, and the draperies are hung just a little higher to elevate the entire space. The artwork is scaled perfectly for the room, and the textures work together in harmony rather than competing for attention. Most people cannot immediately explain why a room feels so good when they walk into it. They simply feel it. That is the beauty of thoughtful, well-executed design.

One of the biggest misconceptions about interior design is that there’s a long list of rules you have to follow.

The truth?

Some of my favorite spaces break them.

I mix wood tones.

I love a moody room, even if it’s small.

Not everything has to match perfectly.

And I don’t design around trends. I design around the people who live there.

Good design isn’t about checking every box or creating a picture-perfect room.

It’s about creating a space that feels layered, personal, and collected over time.

So if you’ve been second-guessing a design decision because it doesn’t follow a “rule,” here’s your reminder that your home should reflect your life, not someone else’s checklist.

A beautiful kitchen isn’t just about picking pretty finishes.

The best kitchens work just as well as they look.

Over the years, I’ve noticed a few design mistakes that show up again and again, and most of them have nothing to do with budget. They’re about planning.

Lighting that’s too small for the space.
Forgetting how you’ll actually use the kitchen every day.
Mixing so many finishes that nothing feels cohesive.
Playing it so safe that the room loses all personality.
Relying on one overhead light instead of layering the lighting throughout the space.
And chasing trends that won’t feel like you a few years from now.

The kitchens I love most aren’t necessarily the biggest or the most expensive. They’re the ones that feel thoughtful, functional, and timeless.

If you’re designing or remodeling a kitchen, I hope these tips save you from a few common mistakes.
