Let’s talk beneficial buggies 🐛🩷🐞

Okay planty peoples , if you know me in my personal life … you already know. Me and bugs are NOT friends 🤣. It’s a little silly given my choice of job but I have always had a slightly irrational fear of bugs. I take every precaution to deter the creepy crawlers around the shade house and routinely treat for all those planty pests we all hate so much… but there’s a few ( just a few 😅 ) exceptions when it comes to bugs. There are some GOOD GUYS ☺️🌿

Speaking of the good guys … when I walked in the shadehouse the other day and saw these eggs i was so happy ! These are lacewing eggs and they are some of the best beneficial insects for your plants ! Often overlooked or forgotten , lacewing flies are some of the most ferocious predators you can introduce to your collection to combat pests like spider mites , mealy bugs , aphids , thrips and more.

Once hatched , the babies can eat 200+ pests a day. This is the most beneficial stage to your plants. They resemble little caterpillars as larvae and will do a serious number on any pest infestation you’ve got going on, especially aphids. As adults , they are a huge help in pollination and very rarely bite or sting. They are very common here in Florida with 20 or more species in the state. So if you see these little buggers around your garden , don’t panic. They do alll the good things ☺️
