Skirting Mohair this afternoon. This is a brand new skill for me, which as an avid learner is always exciting. And with plenty of physical limitation, it is a great job in comparison to many homestead tasks! 😂. Very peaceful and relaxing too! Jason built a skirting table that makes the task even better! I am working to get about 10 pounds ready to send off to a mill that is experienced in carding/spinning 100% Mohair roving and yarn. Are there any of our followers that enjoying working with natural, hand dyed luxury yarns? We would love to hear from you. I think for this first batch, we will order a fi*****ng weight, then go up with subsequent batches, including some roving as well. It will not be back from the mill for 6-8 months, then we work our magic with natural dyes. Thoughts? This is all very soft yearling Mohair.

When I started Nettle & Moon Skincare I had 2 goals in mind by the time I turned 40. To feel comfortable in my skin to go without foundation/concealer/skin tint and to share my products with anyone who believed in me.

We have made an adjustment to the summer schedule.
After pushing too hard this Spring, I find myself struggling to recover fully. Travel is extra challenging even on the good days, so we will not be attending the show in IL later this month. While it is disappointing, hopefully this will allow time to recover, as well as prep for the super busy fall season. Very excited to be at Sugar Creek Flower Farm & Craftery on August 1! That one is right here near home! 🥰.

Upgrade to 40 gallon Tannin & Mordant Baths…hopefully this will allow even dyeing of 3 continuous yards of fabric in each batch. So far, we have 2 going pretty well. The dye pots can handle more but this was the missing piece. 🤞. Can I even lift 3 yards of wet linen to turn it? Good question! 😂😂🤦‍♀️

A Sleepy Tree Frog in the dye pot. I feel like there is a deeper meaning here. 😂. The joys of working in an outdoor kitchen in the wilderness. Fun fact…I LOVE frogs and don’t need that particular pot today so it’s just a little thing that makes me happy…..watching it snooze while I work. 😊

“Weeds” in the garden can be treasures for the dye pot. In many cases, they are also very nutritious and even medicinal, which always leaves me wondering…”when/why/how did we decide it was a useless weed?” A topic for another day! 😂.
This afternoon, I enjoyed a little back porch time sorting through a pan of Sorrel I took from the garden while tidying up (I really don’t call it “weeding” anymore as most everything that gets removed has some value as God surely intended). This will be my second batch of Sorrel dye experiments this season and certainly not the last. Leaving a patch of it to go to seed and compare outcomes. Yes, hopefully a blog post at some point…but for now just experimenting and documenting. Happy Beautiful Sunday!
