Pretty well done with this custom made historic window in seattle. This entire project was completed by westbrook in house. The exception is that the sash are now in at Annapurna Glass to have the custom panels made and glazed in. The storm sash hangers came from , made some custom flashing to help with longevity, filled and calked and pre primed the exterior.
Looking forward to posting this one on my website! Anyone want to take a guess on how many hours it took to do the project? looking forward to a little Yukon time before starting the next project.

Almost done!! With the install of this exact replication or recreation historic window and millwork. The carpentry involved spans everything from setting up scaffolding, proper lead containment, demolition preserving parts and pieces for copy, procuring proper material and hardware, milling custom moldings, window sash, jambs, making storm sash, proper weatherproofing, pre priming, installation using exterior techniques for longevity, filling and sanding and lastly mobilization of moving out of the project. Leaving the customer with a paint ready product. All this done by myself using my shop, field tools and knowledgeable experience. You will note the last photo is the glass panel example made for the homeowner by the artist in his studio to show the coloration difference of glass. It is important to understand that not all restoration glass is made the same. The chemical make up difference can be seen between a blue hue or clear against a white surface. It’s important to use glass that matches the rest of the house. Lastly all of this requires excellent communication with the owner, mindful project management, and patient diligence. All of the above is a good example of the unique personalized service homeowners experience in working with Westbrook Carpentry and Millwork.

A person was inquiring about my craft services informed me that somebody like me doesn’t exist!! That’s what he was told by other carpentry services about his project. He hired Westbrook on the spot over the phone. All he wanted was for this custom carpentry, millwork job to be done in house by one carpenter. So I have a nice custom cabinet/casement project on the books for next year. This is an ongoing theme I’ve noticed in talking to customers over the years. In fact I know there are many out there who are like me who have the talent, tooling, experience to do a wide verity of custom carpentry work from start to finish. The difference is we are real crafts people, artisans, who have spent much time sometimes our whole lives investing in practicing our craft. Yes we make a living and have businesses but it’s less about a for profit focused business system and more about a living philosophy…. A tone of contribution rather than extraction. So next time you feel like you’re being funneled into something you don’t want because craftspeople like me don’t exist, I can tell you we do, so don’t give up keep looking!!!! Ok so in the mean time I got the window I’ve been building installed and am now working on installing the custom moldings made in the shop. With the test fitting it looks like everything fits perfectly! Also you will notice my cut station on the scaffolding under cover so all the joinery can be precision and protected from the weather so nothing is compromised while working.

Happy weekend everyone! Here at Westbrooks shop making an exact reproduction of a historic window system required 4 custom molder knives, custom router bit, sash shaper cutters, 3/4 shaper cutter round over, and that dosnt include cutters for my millbury for tenons, bits for the boring machine, Forrest dado head blades, band saw blades, etc. That’s all for one project! That’s a part of what it takes to manufacture custom millwork and the ex*****on that’s expected in the quality of a unique final product. Not to mention know how, machines and a proper workspace. So yes you don’t have to settle for usual compromise and have custom quality unique millwork carpentry for your home. Don’t let anyone sell you on… “you can’t do that”… yes you can!

Reproduction historic wood window and millwork project for a seattle vintage home going through my wood shop right now. The jamb is arguably the most important component to get sized exactly right for proper fit. If so then install of everything should go smooth.
