Meet my gravel cosmos. Self-seeded, thriving in the gravel portion of my driveway, a haven for 🐝, cheerfulness personified (plant-ified?? 🤔).

Contrast them with the cosmos I started from seed indoors and carefully planted out, only to have them croak or get overtaken by aphids 🙃

Favorite foliage and spike? Basil, hands down. Bonus: it smells amazing! I grew lemon basil this year for the first time, and it makes bouquets smell SO fresh 🍋. I don’t recommend eating it, as we’ve found it to be quite bitter, but the smell can’t be beat.

For some reason, my dahlias, statice, strawflowers and celosia have struggled this year. Big time. And the sweet peas— never saw a single flower. But my zinnias? 😍 bigger and fuller and better than ever.
