This year is all about experimenting.... so, we know that peonies will be the main crop, and we know that hydrangeas are a must. I am also doing roses, but not the every day rose - we are doing varieties that are unique. Otherwise, we will be experimenting to decide what else to add to the farm.
What are your favorite cut flowers?

We are not doing everything the "right" way. It is not all neat rows like the traditional flower farm. I have to get creative. I have to do the landscaping around the house. I have to use as much of the apple orchard as possible without creating problems like my flowers being trampled by the harvesters in the fall. I have to plant in or near where there is already water in place.... and a pile of other issues I have to work with or around . in this case I had a large amount of rocks my husband collected next to my art studio. the bottom of the wall next to the rocks is ugly and needed help. This new planter will hold almost 1,000 daffodils and then after that, the crocosmia. Win-win, my ugly concrete wall is gone, I put the random piles of rocks to good use and my husband was pleasantly surprised at how good it looks... and not disappointed with the destination for his rocks! Let me know what you think!

It is a small start with only 12 hydrangeas but this is it..... I am just taking small areas on the ranch that are the best for planting and using what I have.... lots of pallets, barrels and wood chips. We have some room for expansion but this just happened to be fenced in already, so next year I will be able to add about 24 new hydrangeas. The old shed will get a makeover to be a cute garden shed and I will have peonies, ranunculus, dahlias and glads..... so fun 😁

WOW.... my goal was to post here at least once a week with our progress and updates. well, forget that! I will just have to settle for posting when I can catch a breather, like once a year!
so we have a small area planted with hydrangeas. only 12, so it is more like a big garden than a farm, but my thinking is if the only possible start is a small one, then it is infinitely better than not starting at all. we will have some hydrangeas for our local florists and it is a beginning. the other planting garden that is fenced has its wood chips for w**d prevention and the planter beds are going in little by little. the field has been mowed, part of it anyway, so I can get a better view and get the layout ready. Ben has been getting blackberries and trees out of the way so our peonies will be happier. By Spring we will have 890 plants growing and by next fall will have over 1500 plants to serve our local florists and designers. ( will post pics and/or video the next time I get to catch a breath).... have a beautiful day!!!!!!!!!!

We are excited to announce our peony farm! Our journey really begins this fall with our first planting - we know the plants won't be mature for a while, but we wanted to share our journey from day 1. We have 760 roots on order, 12 varieties and a lot of work ahead of us but we are excited about our new adventure! We will mainly be selling wholesale to florists in Tuolumne county and surrounding areas but might also show up at the local farmers market and/or have a little flower stand for some sweet, beautiful local peony bouquets for you to take home.

stay tuned!
