This is why every deck needs proper flashing.

And why hiring the cheapest contractor can become the most expensive decision.

What you're looking at is the outer band board that ties together the floor system of this home.

A small piece of flashing that costs around $15 could have prevented all of this.

Instead, water got behind the deck ledger over time and rotted critical structural components.

Now the damaged material must be removed and replaced.

That's a repair costing a lot of $$$ because one small detail was skipped.

Most homeowners never see these problems until it's too late.

The lesson? The details matter. Especially the ones hidden behind the finished product.
