Scrolling facebook and suddenly, "Hey, I know that house!"
Had the pleasure of working on this with Red Dot Studio for the client that managed to get this house through Dutchtown and legal services.
By the time we came on board to project, the Owner had already had to do demolition from where the roof had collapsed from water damage and destroyed the subsequent floors and partitions below so that we were starting with just the masonry shell.

Nice article.
Also, There are a lot of great old homes in the city of St. Louis that need new infrastucture and a lot of love, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t worth saving. They may not have been designed by some famous architect, but they are part of the city’s architectural and cultural heritage.
Through Red Dot Studio and others, I have worked on a lot of them and been part of seeing them take on a new life where their historic details of masonry and wood are allowed to flourish again alongside modern amenities and standards so they can remain sustainable for years to come.

Thousands of tornado-damaged homes do not have an application for private property assistance on file with St. Louis’ recovery office.

Officials urge homeowners with properties in need of demolition or debris removal to apply for assistance by Feb. 14.

City officials have estimated there are over 7,300 properties damaged by the May 2025 tornado, and nearly 5,000 of those properties have not signed up for assistance with STL Recovers, the city’s disaster office.

The city’s Private Property Assistance Program includes several initiatives to help with home repairs, structure stabilization, demolition and debris removal.

This was a little project I drew up for permit a few months ago. always nice to see images of something built from the drawings I do. Marlow Contracting is right that deck season is soon. Even small projects requiring permits may require drawings and the permit process can occasionally take time depending on the municipality so the sooner you plan to build the sooner you need to start planning.
Other than small decks, I also can design and draft large decks, garages, carports, simple interior refinish, and various other projects that would not require a seal, BUT for larger projects that do, I am contracted to Red Dot Studio amongst other registered architects and structural engineers.

Returning home this evening from a trip to KC and feeling anxious. Though I like Kansas City and love the amazing friends I have there that I consider like family, The Lou is my home!
The amount of posts and media footage of the destruction brought on the city of St. Louis on 05/16 and its adjacent communities in the county of St. Louis is overwhelming. I am heartbroken at the loss of lives, homes, livelihoods, our resources, and architectural heritage. I am grateful to have gotten word that my friends and loved ones are safe, but can't help but sympathize whole heartedly for those not as fortunate.
I am proud to be a St. Louisan and am comforted to see so many coming together to start clean-up and to help those in dire need whose lives have been upended. The logistics of such a task can seem overwhelming, but in the coming months as our city begins to rebuild and we find ways to volunteer and donate, I know we will show our real strength as a city, a city that I love and am proud to call home, with hard work and civic pride.
