We took a bike ride today and observed some beautiful flowering elderberry.
Elderberry (Sambucus canadensis) is a fast-growing but short-lived shrub in the honeysuckle family. It has fragrant flowers in the spring, and is a great plant to provide privacy in an urban area. It provides cover and food to many critters - birds, turtles, and squirrels often enjoy the berries. The berries are considered edible by humans when cooked, and elderberry jams, pies, and syrups seem to be having a resurgence of popularity. The foliage and immature berries are considered toxic to mammals, and it is somewhat deer resistant for that reason.
We have several sizes of elderberry available. The ones in the bigger pots are looking especially great, and ready for a new home. Email or message us if you are interested!
