I got to literally divide and conquer some houseplants with one of my clients today! Here’s what we did in 90 minutes:

🪴Divided snake plants so she has babies to give away or spread throughout her house.

🪴She wasn’t crazy about the possibility of her Monstera getting humongous, so we divided it, too, repotting some of the divisions in a new pot and making it smaller and tamer for the time being!

🪴Talked about tap water conditioner helping to lessen brown tips on her Dracaena.

🪴Started drilling holes in her planters that lack drainage.

🪴Amended her potting soil with waaay more perlite to provide better aeration for plant roots.

🪴And we repositioned the plants based on which ones better tolerate direct light.

Erin, you’re not on social media, but thank you for having me back. It was a blast! 💚

This small business has become a family business. 😂

I’m so thankful my kids want to join me on nursery runs and that they love having plant-related jobs. 😍

Happy Mother’s Day!

(Remember this holiday, like so many, can be a happy and/or hard day for many people. Plants can be a great gift, no matter the emotions. 💚 )

It’s time. We need to talk about something I’m wild about.

💚💚💚 WILD GINGER (Asarum canadense). 💚💚💚

Thuy, “It’s just a green plant,” you might say. What’s the big deal??

Let me share all the ways this little heart-shaped workhorse can help your SHADY garden spots:

1. It’s a North American native. Natives help local ecosystems, and when planted in the right spot, they eventually will need very little care.

2. Read #1. There are at least 2 reasons right there why wild ginger rocks.

3. It’s a low-spreading ground cover that spreads via underground rhizomes. Anyone else out there like weed-suppressing plants?? 🙋🏻‍♀️

4. It thrives in moist, shady spots, so if you’re struggling with an area that gets
too much rain and not enough sun… try wild ginger. Throw in some ostrich ferns (another woodland native!) if you have the space, and in a few seasons, you’ll have a gorgeous, interesting shade garden with two plants of varying heights and leaf textures.

5. Did I mention that wild ginger blooms in early spring?? Little brown/purple bells appear under their leaves. These blooms are easy to miss, but not if you’re a pollinating, crawling insect!

YOU’RE WELCOME. 😂

My job has taken me into new directions: adding boulders to the landscape! This is too fun! The only thing that would be more fun is if he let me drive the Bobcat…

Let me tell you about my client, Liz! She took a garden design that we finalized last fall, and last week she completed most of the install herself!!! 🙌 I am so incredibly proud of her and wanted to give her a well-deserved shout out! LIZ, you did it! Look at this incredible front yard transformation!

I estimate that she saved about $1200 by doing this without hiring my team or some other team, and I’m thrilled for her! In my small business, I live for this kind of stuff. It gives me profound joy to see homeowners tackle things in the yard that they never envisioned doing themselves.

With a little coaching, YOU CAN, TOO!

My fantastic seasonal team and I spent a couple days in April, including today, beautifying my clients’ property, as they prep it to put on the market this summer.

We pruned crape myrtles and panicle hydrangeas, heavily weeded, prepped soil and laid grass seed, transplanted a half dozen plants to balance out the garden bed, and filled three planters near the front door -that hopefully will provide a warm, green welcome in a few months to the buyers.

This work is so rewarding. A big thanks to Christina, Jamie, and Nate for your great work on this job!

I’m obsessed with Jacob’s Ladder (Polemonium Golden Feathers) in my garden.

A shade-loving perennial for zones 5-9, its bright, variegated leaves and delicate blooms add a vibrancy in my shade garden that I didn’t know I needed. Highly recommend!

Streptocarpus Neil’s Circus. 😍💚 I bought it 10 months ago from the incredible Suzanne H. on The Plant Lovers of Metro St. Louis FB group, and it’s grown!!! I’m WOWED by these blooms!

I REALLY need to do my taxes, so I cleaned up my garden beds instead. 😂
