June 15th Update
Good, 2 weeks to go, Monday morning, RC Day Camp Family
Quote of the day: “A true friend stabs you in the front,” Oscar Wilde
From Kathy: “All you need to know is women are crazy and men are stupid and the main reason women are crazy is because men are stupid,” George Carlin
We’re so close to the first day of camp that I just booked my vacation to Vegas, departing 20 minutes after the last camper gets home on August 21st! Kathy’s booked too but she’s going to Florida (separate vacations for couples who WORK together- Priceless)
Apologies to returning families for any repletion below
The Meet & Greet is on Thursday, June 25th, 4-7PM. A link will be sent soon for you to register. Bring your campers, family members and any other guests you’d like.
THIS IS NOT AN NOT AN ORIENTATION. Except for maybe your child’s group & meeting their counselor you will learn NOTHING. In fact, families from previous summers rarely show up. New families should please read our Parent Guide on our website, MOST questions are answered and procedures explained
Enclosed is our TENTATIVE Week 1 schedule. Reminder: ALL schedules are tentative, which is why we send a more accurate AM update every morning. Additionally, we cannot include EVERY activity for EVERY group in every newsletter or daily update, (not including trips, dress-up days. Water activities & special events). Ask your kids what they did when they get home. Then you’ll know.
The updated, new and improved Camp APP will be sent out next week
Camp is full, especially buses. Therefore, if any parent, especially if you live close, would like to volunteer to come off the bus in exchange for one or two FREE weeks, either this summer or next, or maybe a couple of weeks of free lunch, email me
Camp shirts will be distributed on the campers’ first day (or second). They are not required to be worn on any day except Picture Day, although we encourage them on trips and they can wear any previous year’s colors, (except Picture Day)
If you want to buy an extra shirt & haven’t, you can do so after camp begins
Camp Status reports will be emailed this week. It includes what we think are all final details & info. Check for accuracy. If you mailed your medical form recently, it may not be reflected. Don’t panic. After this week, do NOT mail them unless you begin after week 2. Please get them done, kids cannot begin without one on file. No emails or copies!
Repetitive:
Include your camper number in all messages. That number is located on your enrollment form, which you received when you enrolled. It will also be on your status report
Buses:
We do NOT give you an arrival time on the first day. Pick-up begins at about 7AM and goes until about 815, but they can be late. Please be ready. You do NOT have to wait outside. Bus counselors may call you before arriving. Hopefully we have the correct contact number. In the afternoon, buses are dismissed at about 3:15 but may be late. Times may change throughout the summer; we will keep you posted.
We do NOT answer the phone during camp; however, Emails are quickly answered.
Sneakers and socks EVERY DAY. No Crocs, tap shoes or sandals
Campers can not begin camp with balances unpaid, except for families with payment plans or an approved payment arrangement
Send as many snacks as you think the camper will need. NO NUTS of any kind. If you send a peanut butter substitute, Inform us and label it. Campers who forget their lunch get cheerios and snacks or you can drop it off, Happens at least once a day
WATER: it is imperative that you send FILLED water bottles to camp EVERY day. They will be re-filled as needed. DO NOT send expensive Yeti’s or Stanleys. A Poland spring bottle is perfect.
LABEL EVERYTHING. Send nothing of monetary or sentimental value.
Medications should be brought to camp before we open. Our medical director will be at the Meet & Greet to collect them or bring/send them on your child’s first day
No phones, (or Apple Watches)! We collect them every morning, ESPECIALLY upper division. If you need to contact your child, let us know
We are always thinking ahead: 2027 camp dates- July 6th until August 27th, closed on Monday July 5th
We do our best to honor group requests, (not really), however campers need to be the same age and s*x. There are also size limits that must be adhered to
Vocabulary lesson for reading my emails:
Oy Vey: usually used when a question is asked that was just answered or already explained
Helicopters: parents who “hover” over their kids, especially teachers and mental health workers, (FYI- helicopter mothers always say they’re not one- first clue)
Snowplow parents: Want every “obstacle or difficulty” pushed away or eliminated
Neurotic/ OCD: parents, (you KNOW who you are), who need to know every detail, take notes, questions every decision or freaks out if a kid comes home with a band aide, (teachers, cops, & psychologists)
Your kids will love camp and so will you, (mostly)
More updates to follow, all we be explained, including drop off & pick up, lunch, early pick up, bus cancellation, pool & splash pad, spending money & the meaning of life
Have a great day
LM
