June 15th Update

Good, 2 weeks to go, Monday morning, RC Day Camp Family

Quote of the day: “A true friend stabs you in the front,” Oscar Wilde

From Kathy: “All you need to know is women are crazy and men are stupid and the main reason women are crazy is because men are stupid,” George Carlin

We’re so close to the first day of camp that I just booked my vacation to Vegas, departing 20 minutes after the last camper gets home on August 21st! Kathy’s booked too but she’s going to Florida (separate vacations for couples who WORK together- Priceless)

Apologies to returning families for any repletion below

The Meet & Greet is on Thursday, June 25th, 4-7PM. A link will be sent soon for you to register. Bring your campers, family members and any other guests you’d like.
THIS IS NOT AN NOT AN ORIENTATION. Except for maybe your child’s group & meeting their counselor you will learn NOTHING. In fact, families from previous summers rarely show up. New families should please read our Parent Guide on our website, MOST questions are answered and procedures explained

Enclosed is our TENTATIVE Week 1 schedule. Reminder: ALL schedules are tentative, which is why we send a more accurate AM update every morning. Additionally, we cannot include EVERY activity for EVERY group in every newsletter or daily update, (not including trips, dress-up days. Water activities & special events). Ask your kids what they did when they get home. Then you’ll know.

The updated, new and improved Camp APP will be sent out next week

Camp is full, especially buses. Therefore, if any parent, especially if you live close, would like to volunteer to come off the bus in exchange for one or two FREE weeks, either this summer or next, or maybe a couple of weeks of free lunch, email me

Camp shirts will be distributed on the campers’ first day (or second). They are not required to be worn on any day except Picture Day, although we encourage them on trips and they can wear any previous year’s colors, (except Picture Day)
If you want to buy an extra shirt & haven’t, you can do so after camp begins

Camp Status reports will be emailed this week. It includes what we think are all final details & info. Check for accuracy. If you mailed your medical form recently, it may not be reflected. Don’t panic. After this week, do NOT mail them unless you begin after week 2. Please get them done, kids cannot begin without one on file. No emails or copies!

Repetitive:
Include your camper number in all messages. That number is located on your enrollment form, which you received when you enrolled. It will also be on your status report

Buses:
We do NOT give you an arrival time on the first day. Pick-up begins at about 7AM and goes until about 815, but they can be late. Please be ready. You do NOT have to wait outside. Bus counselors may call you before arriving. Hopefully we have the correct contact number. In the afternoon, buses are dismissed at about 3:15 but may be late. Times may change throughout the summer; we will keep you posted.

We do NOT answer the phone during camp; however, Emails are quickly answered.

Sneakers and socks EVERY DAY. No Crocs, tap shoes or sandals

Campers can not begin camp with balances unpaid, except for families with payment plans or an approved payment arrangement

Send as many snacks as you think the camper will need. NO NUTS of any kind. If you send a peanut butter substitute, Inform us and label it. Campers who forget their lunch get cheerios and snacks or you can drop it off, Happens at least once a day

WATER: it is imperative that you send FILLED water bottles to camp EVERY day. They will be re-filled as needed. DO NOT send expensive Yeti’s or Stanleys. A Poland spring bottle is perfect.

LABEL EVERYTHING. Send nothing of monetary or sentimental value.

Medications should be brought to camp before we open. Our medical director will be at the Meet & Greet to collect them or bring/send them on your child’s first day

No phones, (or Apple Watches)! We collect them every morning, ESPECIALLY upper division. If you need to contact your child, let us know
We are always thinking ahead: 2027 camp dates- July 6th until August 27th, closed on Monday July 5th

We do our best to honor group requests, (not really), however campers need to be the same age and s*x. There are also size limits that must be adhered to

Vocabulary lesson for reading my emails:

Oy Vey: usually used when a question is asked that was just answered or already explained

Helicopters: parents who “hover” over their kids, especially teachers and mental health workers, (FYI- helicopter mothers always say they’re not one- first clue)

Snowplow parents: Want every “obstacle or difficulty” pushed away or eliminated

Neurotic/ OCD: parents, (you KNOW who you are), who need to know every detail, take notes, questions every decision or freaks out if a kid comes home with a band aide, (teachers, cops, & psychologists)

Your kids will love camp and so will you, (mostly)

More updates to follow, all we be explained, including drop off & pick up, lunch, early pick up, bus cancellation, pool & splash pad, spending money & the meaning of life

Have a great day
LM

June Update

Good, parents thrilled only 4 weeks to go, morning, RC Day Camp Family

Quote of the day: “June is the toughest month, followed by July, August, September, October, November, December, January, February, March, April & May.” Mark Twain

From Kathy: “It’s night before it’s afternoon. December before JUNE. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?” Dr Suess

Busy preparing for the opening of camp- our 31st on Staten Island, (I did 6 in Brooklyn before that). The biggest obstacle to a great summer is when parents do NOT read our emails, updates and messages. Much of what is sent is dribble but mixed in with the dribble is critical information. Many questions parents ask were explained in a recent update or message. Can’t blame you; I’d ignore them too, but please stay informed.

Include your camper number in all messages. That number is located on your enrollment form, which you received when you enrolled. We are sending a copy of your enrollment form in a couple of weeks with your current information on file. Check for accuracy.

All balances are NOW due, unless you have a pre-determined payment plan or prior approval from a director- me!

Buses:
Buses are FULL, it’s too late to make changes except to CANCEL it.
We do NOT provide an arrival time on the first day. Morning pick-up is about 7- 8AM but they can be late the first few days. Please be ready. You do NOT have to wait outside. Bus counselors may call you before arriving. In the afternoon, buses are dismissed between 3:15 and 3:30PM but may be late. Times may change throughout the summer; we will keep you posted. Your patience is appreciated.

Often parents using the bus feel it’s necessary to drive their child to camp on the FIRST day. BAD idea. Please don’t. For new parents dropping off or picking up campers by car, have no fear, directions will be sent & staff will assist. Stop, Drop, and Go! Don’t get out

PLEASE read the Parent Guide on our website, especially NEW families. It answers MOST of your questions, even the silly ones!

We do NOT answer the phone during camp, however, Emails are answered immediately, from 5AM until 9PM or later if I can’t sleep.

Camp APP:
Our camp APP, from which parents can view photos, schedules, order lunch and more will be available and the link sent, the week before camp begins.

Lunch:
I know many of you are excited about our new lunch program. Details TBA. It is provided by Montelbano’s and the menu is extensive.

MEDICAL FORMS: No camper can begin camp without a completed & signed medical form on file. They are available on our website. Campers do NOT need a TB test or COVID vaccine. If your child’s yearly visit is not BEFORE camp begins, your doctor should complete one if the child’s last exam was within a year. We cannot accept faxed, copied, scanned or emailed forms. They must be brought to camp or mailed to the NJ address on the form. We cannot accept Bd of Ed. or any other form; it’s DOH regulations.

This week, we will be in the office Mon: 9-12, Wed: 11-2PM & Thru: 2-6PM

IMPORTANT STUFF
WATER: it is imperative that you send FILLED water bottles to camp EVERY day. They will be re-filled as needed. DO NOT send expensive Yeti’s or Stanleys, etc. The amount of them lost every summer is ridiculous. A regular Poland spring bottle is perfect. Speaking of lost and found- LABEL EVERYTHING. Send nothing of monetary or sentimental value. Check camper’s bags, as they sometimes take things to camp that they or you love, without parents noticing.

Our annual Meet & Greet is Thursday, June 25th, 4-7PM. We will send you the form to register next week, (so we know how much pizza to order, etc.)

Medications should be brought to camp before we open. Our medical director will be at the Meet & Greet to collect them or bring/send them on your child’s first day

The week ONE schedule will be sent about June 15th

If you ordered a shirt but didn’t pay, you can order one and/or pay for it during the campers first week, (cash or check- NO Zelle or Venmo

We get many requests for campers to be in the same group as a friend. I usually ignore them because this is mostly a parent “issue” Campers make many friends almost immediately. However, campers must be close in age to be grouped together- (please don’t be a helicopter)

No phones! We collect them every morning, ESPECIALLY upper division. If you need to contact your child, let us know

Camp is almost full; we appreciate the trust you have placed on us.

Remember: anything that goes wrong is KATHY’s fault.

Any concerns or problems during camp, at any time, let me know ASAP. Do Not wait and then tell me something HAS been happening etc. I WANT to know. I will find out the real or whole story for you, then handle accordingly.

Please try to answer your phones during camp. If you see it’s us on caller ID or if we didn’t leave a message, Do NOT panic, it’s never anything serious.

It’s going to be another FABULOUS summer. Everyone here is as excited as you and your kids are, (well ALMOST everyone)

Have a great morning, day, and month. Many more updates to follow
