Hello! I'm Leilana and I am the artist and creator behind Clay Llama Studio.
I started taking pottery classes back in 2018 and I fell in love. I've always enjoyed creating art but I rarely worked with clay, and I never threw pottery using a wheel before. I continued working and taking classes until the Covid 19 pandemic. When my place of employment closed its doors I moved back home to central Massachusetts with my dog and moved in with my parents.
I have spent the past year creating a ceramics studio in my parent's basement. It started with a pottery wheel my uncle loaned me. Slowly I began making pieces, adding shelves, filling them with greenware...and searching for the missing piece of my studio puzzle; a kiln. I searched the depths of the internet, saw some pretty weird stuff on Facebook Marketplace, and drove 9 hours round trip but I got one.
Creating my own studio has been quite an adventure. Sometimes I forget how far I've come. It has involved a lot of practice, experimenting, learning, and accepting failure as part of the process. Sometimes (a lot of the time) I question if I'm crazy for spending my days in my parent's basement. But at the end of the day creating with clay makes me really happy and I'm so excited that I get to do it every day.
