The first few carnivores are getting ready for their move to the outdoor bog space. Since these were started in a greenhouse, it’s important to introduce them to the Tennessee sun in stages. They’ll eventually be happy sitting in full sun outside all year round.

And those pitchers are gonna blow you guys away at full size.

A little teaser of some of the Philodendron babies who arrived last week. They’re doing well and several are already in larger pots. Had to upgrade the temporary holding station to 2 feet by 2 feet to accommodate all the current plantlings.

And there’s still more to share…

The countdown is on! ⏱️

A rare Titan arum, better known as the co**se flower, is preparing to bloom at URI's Horridge Conservatory. This remarkable plant flowers only once every 5-7 years, stays open for just 24-48 hours, and produces its infamous rotting-flesh scent to attract pollinators.

URI's last co**se flower bloom happened more than a decade ago, making this a rare opportunity to witness one of the world's most unusual plants in action.

The Horridge Conservatory (6 Greenhouse Road, Kingston) is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Follow along as we count down to this rare event! Greenhouse Manager Ben Robbins anticipates the plant will bloom in 7-12 days.

Hey look! 👀

The four walls are up and attached in something like a square. It’s almost like it might be a real greenhouse someday! Bonus: this is the view from my office.

Here’s hoping the weather and life will let the rest go up this week.

The newest assorted babies! These are the only non philodendrons among Tuesday’s delivery. A Hoya Variegated Rope, Syngonium Milk Confetti, Black Pagoda Lipstick Plant, and a Ficus Shivereana 'Moonshine'. I’m excited to watch them grow up. Can’twait to share some of our other arrivals, too.

Two of these are definitely Philodendron Ring of Fire babies. It’s the third one I’m not 100% sure about. So we’ll have to watch them grow and wait to see. What are your thoughts?

I’m gonna need everyone to do an anti rain dance for Saturday and Sunday. I know we need the rain desperately and I’m all for rain any other time. I’d just like to get the “barn raising” part done this weekend. I’m rapidly running out of temporary holding space.

The weather finally cooperated for greenhouse construction prep. I spent the day applying water seal to all the wood and this little friend kept deciding I needed company.

Cross your fingers for us that we can get the greenhouse assembly accomplished next weekend. The temporary holding shelf is running out of room and things need to be divided and up-potted.
