North Columbia Elementary School officially opened its new, state-of-the-art facility. The milestone was celebrated on August 19th with a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony attended by the Columbia County School Board, administrators, educators, parents, and students.

This modern facility was designed to accommodate a growing student population and replace aging classrooms. The new school sits on 25 acres, spans 116,446 square feet, and houses 58 instructional units, providing ample space for collaborative learning, technology integration, and future growth.

The facility eliminates the reliance on portable classrooms and incorporates dedicated learning spaces, a media center, cafeteria, gymnasium, and specialized instructional areas. Each classroom is equipped with modern technology, supporting Columbia County’s commitment to one-to-one digital learning and small-group instruction.

We were thrilled to attend the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Bloomingdale Elementary School! 🐻❤

Constructed on the site of the original 1963 building, the new Bloomingdale Elementary School is three times the size of its predecessor and is designed to accommodate up to 1,000 full-time students from Pre-K through Grade 5.

Architectural Highlights
• 64 classrooms, including dedicated spaces for Art and Music
• A dynamic Learning Commons with a broadcast studio and computer lab
• Innovative Energy and STEM Labs for hands-on, project-based learning
• A cafeteria with a performance stage and advanced AV technology
• A full-size gymnasium with retractable bleachers for flexible use
• Collaborative spaces throughout the school to support STEAM instruction

The building’s design emphasizes natural light, flexibility, and safety, with secure vestibules, energy-efficient glazing, and thoughtful circulation that supports both supervision and student independence.

The facility incorporates numerous energy-saving features, including:
• A 660-panel rooftop solar array capable of producing 386.1 kW, supplying approximately 24% of the school's daily energy consumption
• High-efficiency HVAC and lighting systems designed to reduce environmental impact
• Sustainable construction materials selected for durability and reduced lifecycle costs

We were thrilled to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Metter College & Career Academy!

This 32,000 square-foot facility is equipped to provide hands-on, career-focused education for high school students in Candler County. Designed with workforce collaboration in mind, MCCA maintains strong partnerships with local employers.

The state-of-the-art facility, constructed as an addition to Metter High School, has dedicated spaces for specialized programs in construction, agricultural mechanics, healthcare science, and computer science. MCCA represents a significant investment in workforce readiness and student opportunity.

In addition to traditional classrooms, the facility features fully equipped technical labs, a large collaborative meeting space, and real-world training environments.

Introducing the brand-new Maxwell Elementary School, a 115,000-square-foot facility designed with a central pinwheel layout. The campus prioritizes safety, visibility, and operational efficiency in a vibrant and engaging environment.

High-efficiency HVAC systems and LED lighting support sustainability goals. The project, funded through SPLOST, replaces both Maxwell and Thomson Elementary Schools.

The new school features:

• 55 instructional units
• 4 STEM labs
• Dedicated spaces for Pre-K, special education, art, music, and media
• A cafetorium, full gymnasium, and outdoor classroom
• Expansion capacity for 12 additional classrooms

Serving grades Pre-K through 3rd, Maxwell Elementary is officially open for the 2025–2026 academic year!
