The first signs of spring warm my heat rrt! As a designer, nature always will be my teacher. Sligo Creek is a wide creek with running water running over and past.bigband smaller rocks, with just a bank on either side.
It is a place where woods, running water, wildlife, shrubs, ground covers and blooming bulbs create a symphony of shapes and forms with each season different blooms delighting the wanderer.

Water in the garden is like magic, watching the fish shoot by like a golden flash and robins land on the rock to sip some water....silence and just watching

Found a sprouting seed in my tasty grapefruit! So I planted this young life in a pot with soil and put the pot in a closed plastic bag at a warm spot.
Now the waiting starts....waiting for the first leaves (they are not ‘ real’ leaves) to appear and when the second set of, now real leaves,
show themselves the bag will be removed and the seed can now seriously think about becoming a tree over time ....how exciting!! I will keep you posted!

Take a walk in the woods or in Arboretums, fall color is still glorious! Here the grey trunks of the bald Cypress and the yellow rusty color of the redwood needles, the Meta sequoia in the National Arboretum in DC

Walking in the garden today with my friend Corinna it felt like summer, the Indian summer in the upper 70 ties.
We looked at plants discussing pruning some shrubs or removing those that were too overgrown or .....what additional plants should be added to enhance the look of other plants. While we watched the waterfall of the pond murmur a raccoon walked to the edge, looked at us and took a sip of the pond water. He was still young and eyed the big koi swimming elegantly around....he looked at us again and crossed over the two stones in the middle of the pond and sat down...this was noon and in clear daylight but this young guy was off to see the world. After a while he got up and left. My friend said that she caught once a raccoon swimming in her pond, or did he fall in? Luckily he did climb out.. having wildlife in your garden is magical if you dare to see it that way.

Retaining walls can be a beautiful statement piece in your garden. The stonework can really add the finishing touches and tie things together.

Water in a garden is something everyone should be able to enjoy. Here is a water feature that was built 5 years ago and the plants are flourishing! It's calming for the soul to watch the water trickle down and the fish swimming around the water lilies.
