We are doing a repair for a client who asked to have their baseboards replaced. Once we took out the old baseboards, we discovered mold growth on the back of the boards as well as the drywall. We checked all the windows on the outside of the house and almost all of them had failing caulk around them. So, we cleaned the windows, caulked and will paint soon. This will eliminate the water intrusion and take care of future mold problems. Now instead of just updating the baseboards, we are eliminating all the mold areas, repairing all the effected drywall and then installing the new baseboards.
So for all you homeowners, take a few moments and walk around the exterior of your house. If you see hairline cracks in the walls, around windows or doors where water can get in, please have it looked at by a professional or repair it yourself. Trust me, you'll save money in the long run.
