We recently had a client reach out and ask us this question: are there ever any granites that look like marbles or quartzites?

And the answer is, as much as we wish it could happen, unfortunately, it just doesn’t exist.

Granite is an igneous rock, which means it forms from cooled magma. Because of that, it naturally has a more granular, crystalline appearance. Sometimes the movement in a granite can be more flowy, but when you look closely, that grainy texture throughout the slab is very typical of the material.

Quartzite and marble, on the other hand, are metamorphic stones. Quartzite and marble are formed from sandstone and limestone. Depending on the quarry and the formation of the stone, these materials can have those soft, sweeping veins and dramatic Calacatta-style movement so many people love.

So the answer is no, a true Calacatta look is unique to marble and quartzite. But in the same way, the granular movement of a stone like Lapponia Green is unique and beautiful to granite.

Just like all of us, natural stone is completely unique. You never get the same thing twice.

And if you love the marble look but want less maintenance and less patina, quartz or porcelain may be the better option for your lifestyle.
