The anxious dog who flinched at sudden movements and seemed to expect the worst has grown so much. Watching her learn that she’s safe, that she’s loved, and that this is home has been such an incredible joy. I love you always, Penny. 🐾

“Once in a blue moon.”

I said this to a young adult recently, and she asked what it meant. I realized I have now come to the age where I’m explaining sayings. 😩

A blue moon is when there are two full moons in a calendar month, or four full moons in an astronomical season as there are usually three. The moon is not literally blue, it looks like any other full moon (unless something in the atmosphere causes it to appear blue).

The phrase “once in a blue moon” means something that happens rarely.

Sunday, May 31, is a Blue Moon and also a Micromoon (it will appear smaller than usual because the Moon is near its farthest point from Earth). It will be the smallest full moon of 2026.

If you’re out Sunday evening, take a moment to look up. 🌕

I often wonder what stories trees hold.

They have watched generations come and go. They have witnessed the world change around them.

I have a deep love for trees. They remind me of home, Virginia, of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There is a feeling of being small beneath something ancient. There is something calming and grounding about that.

I hope you find your calm going into the weekend.

To be fair, besides the rabbit, these things probably shouldn’t have been within her reach.

Anyway, please enjoy these photos of the innocent little angel!

While on a contracted photography job recently, I realized how much I miss taking photos just for the sake of taking them.

Some of my best moments of healing have come from returning to the things that bring me joy, and photography is one of those things. There is so much quiet, calm beauty that exists in rural life. Nebraska offers it so effortlessly.

It reminds me of childhood summer days spent exploring the ranch with my cousins. Long days outside under the open sky. The kind of freedom and beauty that fills the deepest parts of your soul with joy.

I believe a pivotal component to healing is finding your way back to things that make you feel alive.
