Top Deck Rot Prevention Tips:
1. Flash the Ledger Board – Use metal or vinyl flashing to keep water out where the deck connects to your home.
2. Use Joist Tape – Self-adhesive flashing tape over joists creates a water barrier and extends lifespan.
3. Space Boards Properly – Leave 1/8”–1/4” gaps for drainage and airflow.
4. Seal the Wood – Use a high-quality water-repellent stain or sealer every 1–2 years.
5. Slope for Drainage – Make sure the deck slightly slopes away from your house to prevent puddling.
