🌱 The best time to fight a w**d? Before you ever see it.

That's exactly what pre-emergent is designed to do.

Rather than waiting for certain annual w**ds to pop up and then treating them, pre-emergent works in the soil to help stop susceptible w**ds during the early stages of development (like crabgrass), targeting them before they become the w**ds you see growing across your lawn.

And timing matters. 👀

That's why fall pre-emergent is an important part of our Round 7 lawn program. We're preparing now for w**ds that would otherwise become a problem as we move into the cooler months.

One important thing to know: pre-emergent doesn't mean you'll never see another w**d. It won't control every type of w**d, and it doesn't eliminate w**ds that are already established. That's where proper identification and post-emergent w**d control come in.

Think of it as another layer of defense for your lawn. 🛡️🌱

The w**ds may not be here yet, but we're already thinking about them.

🥵 This isn't an old photo from the middle of summer.

Our team serviced this Magnolia lawn last week and confirmed that what you're seeing here is heat stress.

The calendar may be moving toward fall, but Houston lawns are still dealing with intense heat, and some are really starting to show it.

Heat-stressed turf may:
☀️ Lose its green color and take on a straw-like appearance
🌱 Wilt or struggle to bounce back after being walked on
💧 Show more stress in areas with inadequate sprinkler coverage or intense sun exposure

But here's the important part: brown grass doesn't automatically mean “just add more water.”

Heat stress, poor sprinkler coverage, insect activity, disease, and other lawn issues can sometimes look surprisingly similar. Adding more water without knowing the cause isn't always the answer.

That's why our team looks at what's actually happening in the lawn before making a recommendation.

Fall is coming... eventually. 😂🍂

So… what’s actually happening inside that little mosquito pot? 🦟👀

It’s a lot more than just standing water.

Our In2Care Mosquito Stations use mosquitoes’ own behavior against them. As mosquitoes visit the station, they pick up a biological agent and can carry it back to breeding sites—helping target mosquitoes beyond the station itself.

We broke down the process in 5 simple steps in the graphic below. ⬇️

It’s one of the reasons we love pairing In2Care Stations with our Mosquito Barrier treatments for an extra layer of mosquito control around your property.

Because when it comes to mosquitoes, we’d rather work smarter than just spray harder. 🌿🦟

6 Things Technicians Check During Lawn Inspections

Your lawn doesn't always tell you what's wrong, but it usually gives you clues. During a summer service visit, our technicians aren't just looking at whether your grass is green. They're looking for the signs that tell us why your lawn looks the way it does. A thorough lawn inspection can reveal problems before they become larger issues. In Houston, where lawns can face intense heat, unpredictable rainfall, irrigation challenges, insects, disease, and aggressive w**ds, knowing what to look for matters....

Learn what GreenGate technicians look for during every lawn inspection, from lawn pests and fungus to w**ds, irrigation issues, and turf stress.

🕷️ Remember Charlotte? Here's what she was up to.

In a previous post, we introduced you to Charlotte, our neighborhood orb weaver. Today, we caught her doing what orb weavers do best: using her web to catch dinner.

That web isn't just there to look pretty. 👀

When an insect gets caught, Charlotte can quickly wrap it in silk, keeping it from escaping while she feeds. The web essentially becomes her dinner trap, and she doesn't have to chase her food around the yard.

In this photo, she's enjoying what appears to be a small fly or other flying insect. 🪰

And here's the cool part: spiders like Charlotte are beneficial predators. They're out there naturally helping keep populations of other insects in check.

So the next time you spot a big web in your landscape, you might want to think twice before knocking it down. You could have a tiny pest-control technician working for you. 😉

🔬 Nature is doing some pretty impressive work right in our own backyards.

THE W**D THAT REFUSES TO TAKE A HINT. 🌱

Meet Virginia buttonw**d — one of those w**ds that seems to have made itself very comfortable in Houston lawns.

You pull it.
You treat it.
You think it’s gone.
…and then somehow, there it is again. 👀

Virginia buttonw**d spreads easily and can take hold in thin or stressed areas of the lawn. And because it can spread through both seeds and pieces of the plant, simply pulling what you see doesn’t always solve the problem.

The first step?
Knowing what you’re looking at.

The second?
Having a plan to actually get it under control.

Because your lawn invited grass to the party. Virginia buttonw**d was not on the guest list. 😂🌱
