⚠️ Before You Try to Fix Your Garage Door Yourself… Read This.

We love a good DIY project.

Painting a room? Go for it.
Installing shelves? Absolutely.

But garage doors are one project that deserve a little extra caution.

Here’s why…

🚪 Garage doors can weigh 150–400+ pounds. Without the right tools and knowledge, they can come down unexpectedly.

⚠️ Garage door springs are under extreme tension. A broken or improperly handled spring can cause serious injury. This is one repair that should always be left to a trained professional.

🔧 Cables, rollers, and tracks all work together. Replacing one part incorrectly can create bigger (and more expensive) problems down the road.

💰 Sometimes a “money-saving” DIY repair ends up costing more. We’ve seen small issues turn into major repairs because the original problem wasn’t diagnosed correctly.

The good news? Not everything requires a service call.

Simple maintenance like lubricating moving parts, keeping the tracks clean, and testing the safety sensors are great ways to help your garage door last longer.

When it comes to springs, cables, or anything that doesn’t seem right, it’s always better to ask questions first than risk getting hurt.

Most people use their garage door 3–5 times every single day without giving it a second thought... until one morning it won't open.

The good news? Many costly repairs can be prevented with a little routine maintenance.

Here are a few simple things you can do:

✅ Listen for new squeaks, grinding, or popping noises.
✅ Keep the tracks free of dirt and debris.
✅ Visually inspect springs, cables, and rollers for signs of wear. (Never attempt to repair springs or cables yourself—they're under extreme tension.)
✅ Test the auto-reverse safety feature by placing a small object in the door's path.

Meet the Man Behind Toone Doors 👋

If you've lived in Tooele County for very long, there's a good chance you've seen—or maybe even met—Tim Toone.

Tim has been repairing and installing garage doors since 1979 and founded Toone Doors in 1981. For more than four decades, he's built his business the old-fashioned way: by treating people honestly, doing quality work, and letting satisfied customers spread the word.

One thing you'll quickly learn about Tim is that he isn't the kind of person who tells you something needs to be replaced if it can be repaired. His philosophy has always been simple:

Treat people the way you'd want to be treated.

That's the Golden Rule, and it's guided every service call he's made over the last 45+ years.

Whether it's a broken spring, a noisy garage door, a new opener, or a complete installation, Tim takes pride in diagnosing the problem correctly and helping customers make the decision that's right for them—not the one that costs the most.

Outside of work, Tim enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, golfing whenever he gets the chance, and making memories at the family waterski cabin.
