Here's another pergola that we didn't build that we had to fix.

This home-owner had a part-time pergola builder construct this pergola for them, unfortunately he did not build it properly and it was in need of some repairs. He didn't install any corbels (the diagonal braces that give a pergola their strength) and the pergola was starting a lean pretty heavily, and he used flimsy 1x4 slats for a privacy wall. 1-2 years after it was built, a storm rolled through and destroyed the privacy wall.

We had to shore up the pergola to correct the lean, add in the corbels, and build a sturdy privacy wall for them. You can see how bad it was leaning.

This house had absolutely ZERO covered patio space out the back door. We added a large built-in covering so the family could enjoy being outside while their kids played in the backyard. We built a pergola for a customer and their neighbor loved the design and had us over to put together a quote for her (you can see our pergola in the background). Our price was more expensive than she was wanting to spend so she shopped around and found someone a little cheaper. This cheaper contractor copied my design but the quality of work was extremely poor! The lady had to call me and pay me to come out and fix the pergola. From a distance the pergola looked good, but as you got closer and stood under it, all of the poor craftsmanship details stood out like a sore thumb.

This fits perfectly into the saying "Buy once, cry once". Modern Woodscapes is definitely not the cheapest option around, but if you do go with the cheaper option, be prepared for future problems that you have to deal with.
