This Is Phytolacca americanum, or Pokeweed. As we head into Fall and the berries begin to ripen, this plant commonly takes on these gorgeous pinkish hues. If only it stayed this pretty all year!

Mick’s Pot Spot opens up later this week, and we’re super excited to have a display set up there!

Harmonia axyridis eating aphids on a Spiaea sp. - This is an example of an invasive species that looks similar to the native ladybug. The “M” shape is a classic giveaway. They were brought into the US in the 70’s by the USDA to control aphid populations. Regardless of their invasive status, they do wonders on aphid populations, but unfortunately compete with native ladybugs for food making them controversial to many. What are your thoughts?

These are not for the faint of heart. These plants develop massive 1-2” spines all over the plant. Makes for a great collector specimen!

Passiflora edulis, also known as “Lilikoi”, is an edible, truly tropical fruit. Sweet, sour, and floral. Easy to grow in zones 10-11, and can be cut back and brought in in colder climates or greenhouse grown. She’s blooming today!

Cuttings available unrooted:
$10 gets you (12) 6-12” stems pre-trimmed and ready-to-root. Stick them in a jar of water in partial shade and they’ll root in a couple weeks! These are fast growers and prolific when mature.

If you haven’t heard of Malabar Spinach (Basella rubra) before, you’re missing out! This non-invasive climbing vine produces tons of edible leaves that taste like spinach! Unlike traditional spinach, there’s less pest and disease Issues with these!
