The detail that quietly changes everything.

Countertop edges are often overlooked, but they carry more weight than you’d expect. They can soften a space, add structure, or introduce just the right amount of ornament.

From the fluidity of a bullnose to the precision of a mitered edge, the movement of reeded detailing to the presence of a waterfall, each one shifts how the material is experienced.

It’s never just about the slab itself, but how it’s finished, how it meets the space, and how it’s meant to be lived with.

Spending time in this home reminded us why we love designing in Montana.

Beyond the views and architecture, it was the artistry that stayed with us. The local makers, the heritage woven into the details, and the deep connection to the land are what make homes like Stillwood feel so meaningful.

Every material, piece of artwork, and handcrafted element tells part of a larger story. One shaped by Montana’s people, traditions, and enduring respect for the land.

Photographing Stillwood gave us a chance to slow down and appreciate those details all over again, and the thoughtful craftsmanship that makes this home uniquely Montana.

A few weeks ago, some of our team traveled to Annapolis, Maryland for our annual designer retreat, a gathering of luxury residential design firms from across the country. Hosted this year by Ella Lee Interiors and Mueller Homes, the event brings together designers working alongside high-end custom builders in non-competing markets to share ideas, processes, challenges, and best practices.

What started just two years ago as a small extension of a Builder Group has continued to grow into something incredibly meaningful. Each year, we gather in another firm’s hometown to experience different studios, markets, design perspectives, and ways of doing business.

This year felt different in the best way. The conversations went deeper, the collaboration felt more open, and there was a true sense of trust and vulnerability within the group that has taken time to earn.

Grateful to be part of a community that believes in sharing knowledge, elevating the client experience, and lifting one another up within such a unique corner of this industry.

Stillwood - A small cabin on a large piece of land, Stillwood sits deep within the woods of Big Sky.

Materials that feel foraged rather than selected, a palette drawn entirely from the woods outside the window, and spaces designed to slow everything down.

Every detail was chosen to disappear into the setting. A retreat built for comfort, stillness, and long evenings by the fire.

Out of more than 1,500 entries worldwide, our “Shock Hill” project has been selected as a Transitional Finalist, and we couldn’t be more grateful for this recognition alongside such incredible talent from around the globe.

In Montana, scale matters. The landscape is so powerful that the best interiors don’t compete with it. They honor it.

The light, the seasons, the views… Montana already gives you everything. Our job is to frame it in a way that feels warm, grounded, and genuinely connected to how people live here.

The homes that feel the most successful are the ones that are fully lived in. Spaces where muddy boots pile up by the door, friends gather after a day outside, and every room gets used without a second thought.
