Our first award-winning project started with a homeowner seeing our work on the side of the Lighthouse van.

He wanted his hilltop estate to look exceptional after dark, and the design continued to evolve as Nick studied the property. One of the standout additions was a set of up-and-down sconces on the back patio—a technical installation that helped give the project its distinctive character.

Once the lighting was complete, we knew the scale of the home, the portico, and the Colorado sunset needed to be captured from the air. Those drone images ultimately helped us submit the project for an award.

What catches your attention first, the architecture, the lighting, or the setting?

These beams look like wood, but they are actually stamped and stained concrete.

That made this Larkspur installation far more technical than it appears. A standard fixture placement would have created awkward shadows and lost the dramatic up-and-down lighting effect. Instead, we drilled through the concrete, routed the wire behind the beams, removed trim where needed, and concealed the retrofit so the finished system looks original to the home.

That level of problem-solving helped turn a difficult installation into an award-winning result. Would you have guessed these beams were concrete?

A patio can look great during the day and still disappear once the sun goes down.
At this Evergreen property, deck lights make the steps easier to see, architectural uplighting reveals the joisted ceiling and exposed trusses, and linear lighting beneath the drink rail defines the patio without overwhelming it.

The goal was to create a space that feels comfortable and inviting when the homeowners step outside from the kitchen at night. Which detail stands out most—the illuminated trusses, the drink-rail lighting, or the safer steps?

Four years later, this Larkspur project is still one we remember.

It was one of our first large, intricate installations, and the front portico immediately set the tone. After the driveway was redone, we returned to rework this area and bring the focus back to the trusses and beam structure overhead.

The goal was to make the architecture stand out after dark, especially when the homeowner’s cars are parked beneath the portico. This is only the beginning of what went into this property.

Two hundred feet of linear lighting sounds simple until the stonework gives you nowhere clean to hide it.

At our 2026 AOLP award-winning Mountain Top Estate project, a standard channel would have stood out against the capstones and left visible gaps along the stairs. Instead, we had a custom channel made, powder-coated it to match the stone, and finished the uneven areas with matching sanded caulk.

The stairs needed light, but the solution also had to look like it belonged there. That extra work is what kept the installation clean instead of looking added on afterward.

From the original plan to the finished result in Cherry Hills.

After walking the completed installation with the homeowners, we were glad to hear how much they loved it. The lighting now defines the white architecture across both levels, improves visibility along the pathway, and adds one especially useful detail: a discreet light beneath the mailbox address so guests can find the home more easily after dark.

This Evergreen one has a little bit of everything.

A big waterfall, pond, stream running through the property, trees lit throughout, and a fireplace tying the whole space together. Projects like this are where outdoor lighting really starts to shape the whole experience, not just one feature.

People love the look of outdoor lighting, but more and more they also want control.

One of the biggest questions we get is how to make lights turn on at the right time, stay reliable, and be easier to manage day to day. That is why smart controls have become a bigger part of what we offer, whether someone wants simple on and off control, dimming, or multiple zones.

Our favorite option for straightforward reliability is Lutron, but we also use other Wi Fi control options depending on the system and the goals. When these controls are connected properly, they help solve one of the most common frustrations homeowners run into: lights getting out of sync after a power outage or time change.
