Another episode of this old garage with another side job I did last month. Complaint was the engine had a skip. Was told it was rebuilt 3-4 years ago so a mental note was made to look at everything lol. After the basic checks of filters and nozzles the problem wasn’t found so I went deeper.

As with most jobs getting to the actual problem usually entails taking off much more to do tests and taking apart. With the injectors out I did pressure test on each cylinder and got my first big clue as the pressure from 5&6 cylinders was below 50 and not good. Knowing that I knew the head had to come off but before that I checked the existing valve adjustments and found the intake valves were improperly adjusted especially 5&6. Made more notes and pulled head and while I did I felt the head bolts weren’t as tight as I expected taking more notes 🧐. Got a big clue when I pulled the head and then the cleaning and reassembly of everything.

A few other assemblies weren’t as I would like to see so I addressed each on to give the customer a quality fix throughout. Tractor got picked up as another one was dropped off 🫣🤠.

Got a call leaving job 1 from someone that saw my sign and wanted to know if I’d be willing to fix his worn out spit? After asking what a couple of times as I drove not sure what he was saying lol, I met him when I got home to check it out. Told him sure and got it done today. The customer said “no rush” but I wanted to get it done and he was psyched as he will use it tomorrow !

Ask a farmer if something can be fixed as long as there is something to work with it’s a yes 🤠. Actually this was a easy fun one and made stronger than new and as I finished up another person dropped off a Pilates machine with cracked welds 🫣

So, been real busy but wanted to share a job I did recently on a 6.8 Deere in a chipper. Complaint was loosing coolant into oil. Started with gas check at the radiator and nothing to see if definitely head gasket and nothing. Onto the oil cooler and found possibly a small failure but not what I wanted to see made sure water pump wasn’t cracked on backing plate. All nothing to explain amount of lost coolant and then pull the head after pulling exhaust manifold, fuel lines which I noticed were leaking and holding sawdust and a fire concern to be fixed and then the rocker arm and pushrods all before lifting head. When lifted I found my smoking gun where the gasket breached on one of #6 cylinder push rods and was leaking coolant into crankcase. All cleaned, new everything including head bolts, gaskets , thermostat and fluids as well as reseal all bypass fuel lines to stop the leaks. Had some comm errors die to broken wires and they were fixed too. Ran and checked and back to the customer. No job is too big or small…..

Here’s a more thorough pictorial of
the rebuild/restoration I just did giving an idea of the scope of the project. It included disassembly, parts replacement, parts rebuilding, metal fabrication/welding , sandblasting, many seals changed, part cleaning, paint prep , painting and assembly. Some of the parts were stubborn and required heat to free and most all external big parts taken off to clean and paint all surfaces.

Once given the green light in a few months, I’ll be looking for side work from homeowner, agricultural and construction on any type of equipment including fabrication and welding. Thanks.

Have a good day all

Here is another fix I did a couple of years ago and didn’t post as to avoid flack for moving up in the queue lol. It was my cousin’s truck and it had a list of issues otherwise a nice truck. Changed all hoses, alternator was cracked and replaced, rotted fuel tank straps, manifold studs replaced, rotted oil pan changed, front main seal changed, all belts changed , all fluids changed along with filters, adjust clutch, replaced all front brakes and backing plates, extract several broken bolts and tap out holes and replaced, make new brackets for hood, new shocks, and a few other things like fabrication of parts not available and more..

Need work done on anything with a motor or welding fabrication work feel free to message me thanks.

Been awhile since my last post being busy and taking a break. Have a bit of time healing up with shoulder surgery and wanted to post a few jobs done recently. Have a customer that has trickled in work on a steady basis and in these pictures I had to replace the shanks for the teeth on his digging bucket, do a quick weld fill in for the pins in the coupler and replace and weld on a new bucket coupler to fit the machine.

Wow, it's been a bit since I've posted something but I can assure you I've been busy, lol. Here is a job I recently did for a friend and one of those that I wouldn't generally be quick to do as it was cast iron and mangled! But, in the interest of getting something back on his machine and testing the limits of a cast repair that had many breaks and issues I was game ;). I had to first heat one piece and make it somewhat true and then make a jig to make the two pieces true to each other before setting in on the actual fix.

When all initially done I reinforced with some short pieces of old cutting edge stock that I had replaced on dozers to shore up the repair. Having as many cracks as it did and in a stressful area I told the customer there was no assurance it would last but I've had decent luck on cast with equipment before so I felt ok about putting a bit of time into it and he's been more than happy as it was 700.00 cheaper than a new one and not on the shelf. He's been digging up stumps which is usually harder on things since wood is good for holding on and stressing. A good piece to do for field testing of my work and glad I got him up and running quickly.

Had a nice job that at first was to just rebuild the bucket that was rotted out and then the customer wanted a universal "bobcat style" quick attach coupler and I had to design and build one to fit his tractor which had a wider than normal boom and be universal to many attachments. The coupler was totally stuck on the tractor as the pins were completely rusted and stuck in the tractor and once that was addressed I moved on and fixed and made the coupler. Customer has been very happy....

One of my recent repairs which came in for a head gasket replacement, full service and reseal all 4 cylinders for the bucket assembly. Not a big machine but they did a good job putting the head in a place that many things had to come off in order to access, clean and properly fix the issue. I even made my own seal installer that was quick, cheap and very useful in saving the Merkel style seals.
