I don’t know an artist who doesn’t have a cache of photos in his or her “this might make a good painting someday”. “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” is a 12x18 oil that started as a photo I took in September 2018 on a trip to Panama City Beach with my Georgia workout pals aka The Sweathearts. I took that photo & used it in a drawing course & saw that I had something. I worked on the painting during my oils class with Lesa Cook at the Delaplaine Arts Center in Frederick, Maryland. Remind me not to attempt 6 figures in one painting!

Today, I only made 2 wrong turns as I made my way north to paint with the Frederick Plein Air Artists at Renfrew Museum & Park in Waynesboro, PA. What a great location! So many things to paint. After an hour, I settled on this barn. I loved the shadows & of course, the red barn itself. Already excited about returning to this location next week. Here’s my pastel on 5x7 Pastelbord by Ampersand Art.

I’ve been taking classes from at the Delaplaine Arts Center in downtown Frederick, Maryland. Here’s a 12x16 oil I painted from a photo I took before a hike at the Monocacy Battlefield Field also in Frederick. Lesa introduced me to a couple of new techniques- glazing & scrumbling - I like how they add to the painting. So much to learn!

A hot sticky morning at Rose Hill Manor Park in Frederick with the Frederick Plein Air Artists. I took my time to do a few different sketches before I jumped to color. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t get my pastels to do what I wanted them to do. I’m definitely still on the upward slope of the pastel learning curve. practice practice

I had a wonderful return visit to Pen Mar Park along the Appalachian Trail in north Maryland with the Frederick Plein Air Artists. This group goes to some fantastic places. Here’s a little pastel on a 5x7 Ampersand pastelbord. What a fun surface!

Today was a perfect day to be outside. I joined the Frederick Plein Air Artists at Pen Mar Park in Cascade, Maryland located on a hill overlooking Pennsylvania. The morning started out overcast & even though the sun came out, I tried to keep the initial hazy scene. This is a pastel on black cardboard. ❤️

On Saturday, I participated in the Frederick County, Maryland, Landmarks Foundation’s 18 Annual Barnstormers plein air & tour event. The composition of my painting was totally off but I am happy with the way I added some chickens into the scene.

I went out this morning to Hoodstead Farms in Middleton, Maryland with the Frederick Plein Air Artists. I brought along my pastels & had some fun painting this old tree. I had packed up my gear but decided to stay & sketch. I felt something near me & a small group of young cows wandered over. For big animals they certainly are stealthy.
