Another couple dozen+ for the freezer. šš
A few answers to some questions weāve had over the last 2 months:
1-In no way was this my childhood dream. This is answer to a call & desire the Lord gave Eric within the last 10 years. I mean, do you really think Iād get up before the sun to butcher chickens in my younger years?! Haha. Um, NO! But alas, here we are, living out our adulthood dreams!
2-This was our 3rd out of 4 batches. We decided to do it this way to keep our flocks more manageable & make processing day a little more bearable.
3-The 27 we added today will make 85 birds weāve processed so far. Our next batch will get us to around 115 for the season. Yes, we eat that much chicken, with a few here & there to gift away.
4-We have a standup freezer & 2 chest freezers.
5-We hope to start a full-blown market farm next year & have poultry for sale.
6-No, no one taught us, we āself learned ourself!ā Seriously, we watched a ton of homesteading YouTube & Abundance+. The first time we butchered, 10ish weeks ago, we learned hands on, without a teacher or coach!
7-Yes, we promise to get a video out of our processing days.
Lastly, if we can do this, ANYONE can! Weāve only lived here for 19 weeks. Eric works full-time, our kids are all in extracurricular activities. We didnāt have any infrastructure, we paid cash for our materials to build chicken tractors. Weāve moved our meat birds around maayybe 1/4 acre. See? I just took away some common excuses regarding money, time, & space! If we can do this, ANYONE can! You donāt need any other reasons because well, just take a look around at our world.
Team Stuhan, yāall killed it!
So proud of all our hard work. From these chickens at 2days old, when we moved them to grass, all the feed & water, all the moving to new grass 1-2x a day, to butchering today at 9 weeks! Iām so thankful for yāall!
God gets all the glory.
