So much fun AND so honored to be considered and trusted to make this possible for the bride and groom.

Important info for us gardeners!🌺🍁

As fall arrives, many gardeners are tempted to get out in the yard and clean up brown perennials, annuals, and shrubs.

Although fall is the time to cut back perennials (if you want to), it is NOT the right time to prune back shrubs.

New gardeners especially might be tempted to lop off anything that looks messy--but it's best to wait for pruning. See our shrub pruning calendar here: https://www.pubs.ext.vt.edu/430/430-462/430-462.html

Perennials also do not HAVE to be cut back. While many gardeners do for aesthetic reasons, leaving brown perennial stems can be beneficial for wildlife. Here's a guide to the different reasons you might choose to leave or cut perennials: https://extension.psu.edu/cutting-down-perennials-in-the-fall

First wedding arch that I’ve done! I had some obstacles (wind was an issue so we had to weigh down the base). Considering the wind, I decided to make 2 extra arrangements to hide the bricks that were used to weigh this arch down. Thankfully, I always buy more that I think I’ll need because you never know…case in point! I hope the bride likes it!🌺

Transplant season is finally here! 🍅 Depending on where you're located in Virginia, your last frost date may be long past or you may still be checking the weather each night wondering how cold it will get. Once you're sure nighttime temperatures will not dip below 55°F, it's time to get started moving your transplants outside. (But be sure to harden them off!)

In May, you begin to direct sow some summer vegetables--including beans and cucumbers. (You don't have to plant everything at once! You can stagger your planting so that you harvest over a long period of time instead of all at once.)

Remember to harden off transplants before getting them in the ground--more info on "hardening off" here: https://www.pubs.ext.vt.edu/426/426-001/426-001.html

ℹ️ Find more detailed information about planting dates in our Home Gardening Vegetable Planting Guide: https://www.pubs.ext.vt.edu/426/426-331/426-331.html
