I’ve been taking a lot of time lately to step away from relying solely on powertools for this craft.
Recently, I’ve found the love for hand tool woodworking.
Practicing joinery techniques to interlock wood and make beautiful pieces without the use of hardware has been an interesting for awhile but I found powertools were a “pay to play” trap; where your work will only be as detailed and appealing as the amount of tools and accessories you could purchase to make special designs.

So here I am. Two weeks into building a brand new workbench specifically designed for doing nothing but hand tool techniques.

And I’m building it all… with hand tools 😆

I’m excited for the ability and resources this new workbench piece will give me, where I can further grow my skills and have something to show for it.

I’ll update further once things have come together. 😁

Okay… I may have gone a little overboard on butcher block 😅

Finished coffee table build.

This piece has a clean birch butcher-block style top, solid wood base, oak dowels through half-laps, lower storage shelf, rounded edges, and hand-cut joinery details throughout the frame.

Built to be functional, sturdy, and simple enough to fit into a living room without looking overdone.

Decided to recycle an old coffee table-top of ours and made a new base for it.

I had to flip the design around a few times during the build, but I wanted to keep things simple and minimal, but keep it sturdy.

Turned out fantastic. Let me know what you think!
