Duck Breed Feature: Cayuga
The Cayuga is one of the most beautiful and unique duck breeds in the world. With their deep black plumage that shimmers green, blue, and even purple in the sunlight, Cayugas look almost magical. They’re calm, hardy, and excellent layers — especially in their first years.

Cold‑ and heat‑tolerant — very hardy, excellent for Florida
Good layers of 100–150 eggs/year
Famous for their egg colors — charcoal, gray, and even black early in the season
Calm foragers who stay close and don’t wander far

Cayugas are sweet, quiet, and steady. They’re not loud or dramatic, and they integrate beautifully with other breeds. They’re gentle with people, easy to handle, and tend to stay calm even in busy environments.
