Magnolia Meadow Homestead

Magnolia Meadow Homestead In the spring time we have White Chinese Goslings, White Call Ducklings, Assorted Guinea Keets, and a variety of breeds of chicks to purchase.

We are a small homestead in SC learning to garden, growing a food forest, and breeding chickens that are not only gorgeous to look at but also lay a rainbow of egg colors. We also sell eggs for hatching or eating year round! Feel free to reach out with any questions at any time!

We are excited to announce that we will be breeding Whiting True Blue chickens! As someone who loves diversity and being able to tell my chickens apart easily, it was a no brainer to go with this breed. While all of them lay beautiful blue eggs, each chick can grow up to look completely different!

This breed originated from Whiting Farm, developed by Dr. Tom Whiting, he crossed white leghorns with Ameraucanas to get the high productivity and egg size of the leghorn and the various colors and patterns and blue eggs of the Ameraucanas.

Raising this breed, we have noticed they are great foragers, friendly, hardy, and excellent egg layers. We couldn’t recommend this breed more to anyone looking to add some fun colors to their flock and beautiful blue eggs to the egg basket.

This spring we will be producing chicks weekly, so reach out if you are interested in getting some for yourself! We will only be doing local pickups for the time being.

Below are some of our hold backs from last year’s breedings and possibly what you can expect to get from us. We also sometimes produce white chickens with black spots! But I didn’t have any last year. They are showing up more so this year.

1 day old Call ducklings 🥰

Sad story behind these babies. There should have been 9 of them. Momma duck was sitting on 9 eggs, ALL of which were developing nicely, which isn't common with call duck eggs in my experience. 5 days before hatch day, a snake came and ate 6 of the eggs! The last 3 eggs I put in the incubator.
We had a great time enjoying them before they went off to their new home.

Jack and Jill 🥰 I remember driving the 3 hrs to Atlanta to pick them up from the post office like it was yesterday. They were such sweet babies, and so fun to raise! Now they are 2 years old and have a baby of their own. They have a lot of attitude and don't hesitate to speak their minds. Sometimes they have so much to say you can't even hear yourself think 🤣
Did you know geese have serrated bills and tongues? They slice through greenery as if cutting with a knife! Many people are afraid of geese. I can't say I blame them 😄 Jack has given me a good bruise more than once.... But if I can see him coming then I can stifle his aggression with cuddles and he usually leaves me alone after that 🤣 can't blame the guy for doing his job protecting Jill and the hens!

Chickens come in so many beautiful colors and patterns, it's hard to stop yourself from collecting them all! These are a few of our birds.

The first one is Finn, the current rooster of the main flock. He is a black copper marans rooster from a very dark egg produced by Color Me Chicken Farms. He fathered many beautiful marans and olive egger chicks this year and we can't wait to see how their eggs look 🥰

The next one is one of our oldest chickens, she is a b.b red old English game bantam hen. Her name is Tilly. She has never been a mother, but despite her age she still lays multiple eggs a week.

Next is one of our two Mille Fluer bantam cochin roosters. His name is Mike and he is quite the character! Although tiny, Mike and Chester gang up on any other rooster trying to come near their hens. You can almost tell from hatch which of their chicks are roosters just from the attitude they hatch with 🤣 thankfully they are very sweet roosters to us humans 😅

Olive is the grey hen. She lays beautiful green eggs and comes from Alchemist Farm.

And the last picture is another one of Finn because he kept sticking his butt in front of the camera 🤣

I have had an idea to maybe have one day a week where I do a highlight of one or a few of our birds so you guys can meet the producers of the gorgeous eggs we sell. Let me know what you guys think!

The gosling is getting so big! It is three and a half weeks old now and doing great so far. Jack and Jill are being amazing parents 🥰

The second picture is of goslings I had hatched earlier in the year. Standing side by side they are a good visual example of how fast geese grow! The smallest one was 2 days old, the middle sized one was one week old and the biggest one was 2 weeks old.
