Pepitas
Mesa, Arizona

This watercolor explores the quiet beauty of an everyday moment: freshly rinsed pepitas resting in a colander. What began as a simple kitchen task became an unexpected study of color, light, and pattern. I was drawn to the way the seeds gathered into a shifting landscape of greens, each one slightly different in shape, tone, and texture.

The perforations of the colander create a rhythm that contrasts with the organic forms of the pepitas, while the cool washes of the background emphasize the freshness and vitality of the seeds themselves. By isolating this ordinary subject and viewing it up close, I hoped to reveal details that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Much of my work is rooted in the act of slowing down and paying attention. In this piece, I celebrate the beauty hidden within the routine—the idea that even the most commonplace objects can become fascinating when observed with curiosity and care.

Building America
Warsaw, Indiana

This watercolor captures a passing Union Pacific freight car along Winona Avenue in Warsaw, Indiana, where the railroad’s familiar slogan—“Building America”—shares space with a vibrant layer of contemporary graffiti. I was drawn to the contrast between the corporate message, the industrial geometry of the railcar, and the spontaneous creativity painted across its surface.

The clear blue sky and bright yellow car create a sense of openness and movement, while the graffiti transforms a mass-produced object into something personal and temporary. For me, railroad cars are moving canvases, carrying stories, identities, and traces of the communities they pass through.

In this piece, I explore the intersection of industry and self-expression, finding beauty in the unexpected ways people leave their mark on the everyday landscape. What began as a freight car became a study of color, contrast, and the layered narratives that travel America’s rails.

Original painting- 10" x 10" Arches Cold Press watercolor paper. Mixed media- watercolor and colored ink.

Reproduction- 8" x 8" Premium Hot Press paper. Limited run of 100.
