Amidon Sidewalk Park

Amidon Sidewalk Park The restoration and upgrading of the park at the corner of 4th & G Streets SW is an effort of the Waterfront Gateway Neighborhood Association.

Amidon Sidewalk Park was completed in 1967 as part of the Soouthwest DC urban renewal project. As a complement to the adjacent Amidon Field which hosts baseball and other team sports, Amidon Sidewalk Park was intended for less active recreation, including a bocce call court, game tables, and a climbing sculpture for children. Cost-cutting resulted in neither the bocce ball nor game tables being in

stalled, and the park gradually declined. Efforts to restore the park to it's original mission of offering recreational options to the neighborhood got underway in earnest in early 2015 with the support of Ward 6 Councilman Charles Allen and the DC Office of Planning. An Advisory Board of nearby residents and others interested in the park is in place and welcomes input at [email protected].
