Thank you to everyone who’s donated - J’s family is so thankful for all your support! The funds thus far are already helping J’s family cover necessary essentials.

J’s wife asked that I share this note:
“I would like to thank everyone for their big hearts and for helping us through this difficult ordeal. We don't have a good update on my husband's case, but we continue fighting with the lawyers, hoping for a miracle from God. My husband also thanks you for your support. Your help has been a great help in getting us out of this difficult situation. I can only say that God will multiply every grain of sand in this difficult cause.”

Didn’t know “slow renovating” had a name, but we’ve encouraged it for years! The analogy to dating is spot on - live in your house and get to know it before deciding what needs to be changed 😉.

When it comes to home renovations, patience is the most practical virtue.

We’re noticing more of our clients struggling to finalize decisions as projects move from design to construction - perhaps this explains why.

The fantasy of a renovation or addition is exciting, but actually selecting the cabinet style, stove, shower controls, paint colors (and dozens of other decisions) stops some people in their tracks.

“The people I know who broadly seem most content with their lives have adopted the satisficer’s mind-set.”

Seems it’s now part of our job to help the “maximizers” be “satisficers;” that is, help them understand there’s no one perfect decision, but many good options which will work together to create a great project.

Good food for thought!

Getting a handle on construction costs is like swimming through mud, yet necessary to confirm what you can afford to build and/or want to spend. Ask 5 contractors how much your project will cost and you’ll get 5 different answers - unless you have a clear scope of work.

Our process of preliminary pricing in the design stage fills in this missing piece; it gives our clients critical information to help decide exactly how much they can build and which options to choose, BEFORE preparing full permit/construction sets.
