McDuffie Alledgedly Displays 'Disrespecfully" and While Presenting Misleading Results About Another Candidate for Mayor of The District of Columbia

Many District residents are frustrated over rising Pepco electric bills and the continued approval of utility rate increases.

Fact: Kenyan McDuffie supervised oversight of the regulatory system during the period when multiple Pepco electric rate increases were approved. McDuffy voted while serving in a leadership oversight role concerning the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia. Delivering higher rates for utility corporations twice, allegedly.

The Public Service Commission — not the D.C. Council directly — formally approves electric rate increases. However, critics argue that McDuffie never forcefully opposed higher rates affecting District residents while serving in his oversight capacity.

During that period, the PSC approved multiple Pepco rate increases, including a controversial $123 million increase that was later challenged in court.

Political opponents and some residents have also argued that McDuffie appeared too close to utility interests or failed to aggressively challenge rising utility costs impacting working-class families and seniors across Washington, D.C.

At a recent mayoral forum, tensions escalated between Kenyan McDuffie and Janeese Lewis George as the debate turned toward accountability for rising utility costs.

According to reports:

“The race for D.C. mayor intensified Saturday as two Democratic frontrunners, Kenyan McDuffie and Janeese Lewis George, took the stage for a live forum that quickly grew heated.”

The debate centered on utility rates in the District and questions surrounding responsibility for increases approved during their time serving on the D.C. Council.

Many residents are now asking:
Who truly stood up for D.C. electric customers?

All candidates should be invited to every public debate so District residents can hear directly from each candidate about energy costs, affordability, and accountability.
