Are you ready for the answer? Let's start with "Do you know this mineral?"

If you guessed that this was Onyx, you are correct!

This Onyx is specifically Banded Onyx, where the layers are formed with iron impurities and chalcedony and/or carbonate. Unlike the usual onyx, where it tends to be black and banded with white lines of chalcedony, this specimen has more in common with sardonyx due to the shades of red/orange/reddish-brown from the iron oxide.

Banded onyx can come in a variety of colors with parallel layers, such as black, green, honey, blue, pink, brown, rainbow, and, of course, sardonyx. Banded onyx is known to be used for spiritual grounding, connecting the self to the earth, and enhancing your inner self in personal growth. The variations of additional properties depend on the variation (brown: layer resilience; blue: perseverance in discipline; green: aid in healing compassion, etc.)

We know the current climate has everyone on edge, but we hope that this Memorial Day weekend will bring a moment of peace and taking a much-needed breath before letting the hustle and bustle of life back in.
