If you haven’t already, now is a great time to feed your plants!

We love Espoma! They have a great variety of organic products that are easy to use. You can pick up most Espoma products at Home Depot, Ace Hardware and Walmart.

We applied Espoma Garden Tone to the majority of our plants…things such as peppers and pumpkins and applied Espoma Tomato Tone to the tomato plants. We sprinkle about 2 Tablespoons around the drip line of each plant. In areas where plants are closely planted, such as onions, we sprinkle the fertilizer over the entire patch.

Usually after applying fertilizer it is recommended to water it in, however we are holding out for the forecasted rain tomorrow. Crossing our fingers for a gentle steady rain! 🌧️

Today is a great day to garden! Really enjoying the cooler weather and overcast skies! 🌤️

Took some time to tackle the weeds in the onion patch! 🧅 Onions don’t like to compete for space so try to priorize them when you get the time to pull weeds.

Onions are heavy feeders so now is also a great time to feed them if you haven’t yet. We use Espoma Garden Tone.

Harvested garlic scapes this morning! 🧄

Garlic scapes grow from hardneck garlic varieties. They are a tender, curled stem with an unopened flower head that emerge late spring. You know it’s time to harvest when they make a horse shoe or coiled shape. Snap em or snip em off the plants.

Garlic scapes have a more mild garlic flavor and are great for cooking. Some suggestions are stir fry, scape pesto, saute or grill.

After harvesting scapes, garlic bulb harvest is only a few weeks away! Check back soon for garlic harvest, curing and storing info.

Enjoying the flavors of the season! 🍓

Stopped at Aldi to pick up some angelfood cake to make strawberry shortcake…they didn’t have any, so we improvised and picked up some lemon loaf cake. The strawberry/lemon combo was awesome! 🍓🍋

Of course the dogs had a few berries too! 🐾🐶

Garden pests can be frustrating! 🤦‍♀️

This critter here is called white-marked tussock caterpillar. 🐛😬 Looks cool or maybe a little scary!?!The hairs and spines on its back can cause skin irritation or rash. If you spot one, do not touch it! ✋

Gardening is filled with personal preference, and with that said, this is a critter I’ll be removing.
