Your perennial garden. Now is the time to apply Preen or pre-emergent to control w**ds to all your mulch areas. This will kill w**d seeds without harming any perennials or bedding plants. Killing the w**d seeds makes w**d control in the garden so much easier. Happy Gardening!

Controlling Weeds in Perennial Gardens:
With just a few tips and a couple secret weapons, its easy to control w**ds in perennial gardens.
1)Mulch - Topdressing the mulch makes it harder for w**d seeds to reach the soil and germinate. Adding a couple inches of mulch now will save w**ding later.
2)Pre-emergents - Apply Preen to kill the w**d seeds. It will only kill seeds so there is no harm to your plants. Spread all over the garden surface in spring to prevent w**ds spread by seed.
3)Roundup - or glyphosate. Be careful with this one, it is non selective so it will kill your perennials if it contacts the plant. It breaks down readily so it does not work in the soil. The key is to spray the w**ds without hitting your perennials. A great product is Sure Shot, available at Home Depot, it is a spray foam that allows you to spray w**ds in tight spaces. In real tight space I apply the foam to a rubber glove and grab the w**ds with the foam. It beats pulling w**ds because you usually dont get the roots out so you end up spending too much time - and summer is too short for that.

"Its the most wonderful time of the year" It almost May!!!! But hey 70 degrees is here in a few days!
