Haven’t posted anything lately… I’ve been in a bit of a modeling funk and have also been working on setting up a new workshop the last week or so. Hopefully stuff will start rolling out again soon!

More progress on CR 8686 (ex-LV 272). Got all the decals done except the number boards and “F” on the front. Just have to finish painting/installing the handrails, MU hoses, and a couple other paint touch ups. Overall I’m pretty happy with it so far

A bit of progress on Conrail 8686 today… got one side of the hood done. I know I said I’d never do another three stripe LV engine again after the last one… but this one is too neat to pass up. A super faded cornell red that was almost as bright as the late LV red, roof mounted M3’s, silver dynamic fan shroud, a replaced access door on the dynamic blister, and three friction/one roller bearing axle.

Side note: I still despise 3 stripe engines… these stripes absolutely suck to decal

Future Conrail 8686 starting to take shape. Got the details and primer done tonight. Might paint it tomorrow or Tuesday. It kept its original LV Cornell Red/3 stripe scheme but was much brighter than the others due to the harsh chemicals used to wash them/sun fading. Also had some other weird paint details which will be shown on the model

The work bench has been pretty busy lately! A few projects in various stages of completion waiting for more decals or paint matching on the handrails. Just started the gray SW8 tonight, cutting out the areas for etched metal grills

This project may be in vain with the recent scale trains announcement… but I started it before they announced GP30s so I have to finish it. One of the many things Proto got wrong on the Reading GP30’s was the fuel tank size. They should have put 1700 gallon fuel tanks on them instead of 2600 gallon tanks. It’s such a glaring problem that I decided to cut it down and remount the main reservoir tanks to the right location. Still needs some other piping but I’m pretty happy with it so far.

I also got the correct horns added to it since Proto mounted a regular three chime to the center of the cab roof. I split a Details West EL horn into two pieces and mounted them correctly according to prototype photos.

I really think it’s the little details like this that make a model. Next up is painting all the handrails yellow instead of the green that Proto used

CR stencils and drip strips added/painted to Conrail 2170! Now to find a good horn set to use… anyone have any ideas for a split Leslie three chime?

Next one making it’s way through the shop… future Conrail 2170. This one had several different style patches throughout its life so I’m choosing the one I like and going with it. So far it’s had the patches done and a cab signal box installed. Next up, drip strips and lettering
