Architecture as the Frame for Art

Architecture as the frame, both intense yet sublime as venue for the art it holds. Thomas Phifer, AIA, designed the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw as a building that gets out of the way of the art. Every detail had to hold up to that standard. Our manufacturer, Volcano Steel Windows, delivered with 20-foot steel pivot doors and concealed hinges that sit flush with the interior finish plane. The hardware disappears. The scale speaks.

This NYC gut renovation hides its most unexpected detail underfoot - a walkable skylight, visible here from below through the curve of a spiral stair.

Light shifts with the hour. Clouds drift through the ceiling. The line between inside and outside becomes transparent.
