With spring coming, consider checking your vents that may have a bush in front of them. I know they may be there to cover the vent, but a heating appliance that is sucking in contaminated air is not good for the system. The benefits of removing the bush are far more beneficial for proper operation then not being able to see the vent.

Just a reminder with all this snow, which we have not had in a few years. Its time to check your exhaust vents. When you're out shoveling your walkways,. Propane tanks, and mailboxes, to also shovel out your exhaust vents. With the vents covered with snow, it could cause carbon monoxide to build up in your home.
The pictures below are from a plow truck that pushed snow, and covered the vent. It's not just propane heating systems we need to worry about, also oil systems with power venters and direct vent oil burners, also your dryer vents.

Do you have aluminum foil tape on your heating system flue pipe? Did you know the most common temperature rating for the foil tape is 180 or 300 degrees. Did you also know most oil heating systems have a flue temperature of 350 degrees to over 600 degrees? The foil tape will not burn or catch fire, but the glue chemicals when heated up are not good to breath in. The foil tape is designed to seal the joints in hot air furnaces system duct work. A chimney has a natural draft so flue gasses are pulled outside, so they will not leak into the house. If you want the joint sealed, they should be sealed with high temp silicone.

PSA, cold weather is here. A reminder to move anything you may have infront of a heater vent. This is a picture of an outdoor bench 2 feet in front of a Rinnai direct vent heater. The heater kept going out, and throwing a code. There should be nothing at least 4 feet infront on the vent. Outdoor furniture, grills, bike's, toys, wood, also when we finally get snow to make sure the vent is uncovered. This goes for all vents that maybe close to the ground, Rinnai direct vent heater, Empire direct vent heater, and water heater that are vented through the wall with pvc.
