I’d heard about Marysville’s famous black squirrels for years, and today I finally met one. 🐿️
I spent a little time wandering through the city park hoping to spot one, and before long I saw a little black squirrel darting through the grass. I happened to have some raw peanuts with me, so I tossed a few its way. To my surprise, it gradually worked up the courage to come closer and closer.
Now, I won’t claim we’ve become lifelong friends, but for a few minutes, I felt like I’d been accepted into the squirrel circle of trust. 😄
It’s funny how the simplest moments can become the best memories. Not the destination, not the agenda—just sitting on a park bench in a small Kansas town, sharing peanuts with a squirrel that looks like it forgot to color itself red or gray.
If you’re ever in Marysville, be sure to stop by the city park and keep an eye out for these little celebrities. They’re every bit as charming as everyone says.
And yes… I may be adding raw peanuts to my road trip essentials from now on. 🌰🐿️
