🛠️ Juan’s Drywall Series: Why We Keep Coming Back
Drywall may look simple, but it takes several visits to get it right. apply, wait, sand… repeat. Perfect seams and glossy finish don’t happen in one stop—that’s why quality costs more. Layers of precision, folks!”
🔁 Why Multiple Visits Are Needed
Day 1: Hang & Tape or Repair
Juan attends the job site to install drywall, tape the seams, and apply the **first coat of mud**. That's the foundation—but just the beginning.
Day 2: Sand & Block Coat
He returns to sand down the dried mud and applies a second coat. This process ensures the seams are properly feathered and smooth.
If needed, day 3: Final Skim & Sand
Another visit to apply the final skim coat, followed by fine sanding to prep the surface for paint.
Each visit comes with setup, teardown, and drive time—even if Juan only spends an hour working.
🕒 Timing Breakdown & Dry Time
Drying time between each coat - typically 12–24 hours (longer in humid conditions)
Overall schedule: Most small- to mid-size drywall jobs take 2–3 days, with around 6–7 hours of actual labor spread across those days
A realistic estimate: 1 hour to hang, 1 hour for first mud and cleanup, 1 hour for second coat, 1 hour for third coat, plus 2 hours for sanding and finishing. And yes, travel and setup time to each visit counts.
💲 What It Means for Your Cost
Labor typically represents about 65–75%** of total finishing costs
Finishing cost ranges $1.50 – $3.50 per sq ft for a Level‑4 or Level‑5 finish
This includes all the coats, taping, sanding, and yes—multiple site visits to let things dry and achieve that pro-level result.

Here’s how drywall really works:
Day 1 – Hang, tape & first mud
Day 2 – Sand & block coat
Day 3 – Final skim coat & sand
Multiple site visits are built-in—setup, drying time, sanding, drive time… it all adds up. That’s how you avoid ridges, nail pops, or seams peeking through under glossy paint. That pro finish costs what it takes.
