Brrrrr!!! A lot of us North Carolinians look forward to the longshot white Christmas each year, but it does not look eminent this time around. Instead, we will have extremely cold temperatures for the area. Wind chills will be in the teens Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Temperatures in that range can cause busted pipes throughout the area. Take extra precaution to prevent this from happening to your property! The entire Team will be on standby through the holidays to assist with water damage claims when/if they arise. We hope you all have a wonderful and warm Christmas spending time with family indoors! Summer storms can pop up in the blink of an eye! Stay weather aware.

JUST IN: Tropical Storm Colin develops overnight along the South Carolina Coast; Tropical Storm Warnings are posted from Little River Inlet to Duck, NC. Overnight, the low-pressure system off the SC coastline got much better organized, and the Hurricane Center decided to name it. The center is about 50 miles southwest of Myrtle Beach this morning. Maximum sustained winds are about 40MPH with higher gusts. I’ll explain what to expect below. This does not change the forecast much; Colin will move up the NC coast today, little change in strength is expected.

The forecast does not change much; it is just named Colin because the system has tropical characteristics.

Here’s a breakdown of the forecast; the vast majority of the impacts will be right along the NC coast from Sunset Beach to Duck. This is a coastal event to offshore, but will be a very minimal event.

WINDS: Overnight, winds have been gusting up to 30MPH along the Southern Coast. Winds will gust up to tropical storm force through Sunday along the NC coast ending from south to north. Winds will be 30-45MPH with isolated higher gusts along the Outer Banks. Little to no impacts, but some weak chairs or light furniture might fall.

RAIN: Colin will bring much-needed rainfall to the coast 1-3” possible with up to 4” in spots best chance of rain today into early Sunday.

SURF AND OCEAN: High Risk of Rip Currents through Sunday, and higher ocean conditions. Swimming is not recommended over the next 24 hours. A few waterspouts can’t be ruled out along the coast. Surf up to 5ft in spots.

The Bottom Line: Just because it is named doesn’t change a thing; this will remain weak Storm, no need for breed and milk, etc. Just some rain and wind along the coast over the next 24 hours. Conditions will improve Sunday, and beach days are back by the 4th of July.

High heat alert this week! It’s that time of year where we see a lot of HVAC draining problems. Keep an eye on your system and learn when it is time to clean the drain line. The resulting water damage from an overflowing pan can be a nuisance to daily life. This particular situation caused damaged to multiple levels of the home!

It’s that time of year again. This week is Hurricane Preparedness Week. We always encourage our customers to be proactive and work to address the weak links in their properties ability to withstand heavy storm conditions. Per the usual, stay weather aware and enjoy your Friday!

It is much easier to do these things now instead of waiting for the first storm to threaten our region.

Heads up to our Coastal viewers. A tornado watch has been issued for majority of our service territory. As always, please stay weather aware!

JUST IN:🌪 A Tornado Watch has been posted for Brunswick, Columbus, and New Hanover Counties until 12AM by the National Weather Service. A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for the development of Severe Weather including Tornadoes. The concern is an isolated severe storm or two will move out of SC into NC, we will monitor through the evening.

Remember: Don't be scared or anxious; this is very common in NC. Have a plan, know what you're going to do, and have ways to get warnings. The odds of any one spot being hit are generally low. I'll keep you posted
