The Witty Farmer Store Self-serve greenhouse & store in Riggston, IL. We sell local plants,meat,milk,eggs,breads,& desserts in both Riggston & Waverly now!

Located in Riggston, opposite end of the very small town from the John Deere dealership (on the same side (south) as John Deere, turn by the American flag), directly off of old Route 36, between Wi******er & Jacksonville. Unlike most nurseries, we grow all of our plants directly from seed, we do not buy from a large, wholesale nursery. We offer flowers, herbs, & vegetable plants that you cannot fi

nd at any big box store. We want people to know they can grow their own food, grow their own decor, and that it shouldn’t be intimidating. There is no “middle man,” so we are able to offer plants & fresh cut flower bouquets at a lower price than most nurseries. You are able to order online & pickup in the greenhouse. It’s a “modern day roadside stand.” Jenny figured out how to use existing technology to make it where she is able to continue planting the row crops (corn & soybeans), all the while continuing to service existing customers, & new ones. It’s been A LOT of work, starting all of these plants from seed by herself, but we’re pretty proud of how things have progressed thus far. We know our plants, from the beginning to the end of their life cycles. We are here to answer any questions you might have about growing our organic plants. I hope you enjoy this planty journey with us! We have now added a refrigerator for fresh produce, fresh cut flowers, Farmhouse Bakery’s baked treats, Caramel Cravings caramel selections, Kingdom Honey (Green Valley producer, raises his own bees), and healthy beverages (kombucha, sparkling waters, healthy energy drinks, teas with collagen, cold brew coffees).

Happy Flag Day!

Quilt Pattern: American Pie
Made and Quilted by: Sheila Sloan

Sheila made this block of the month quilt that was offered at Sew Sweet Quilt Shop, Springfield. She stated that the quilt was a challenge and she was glad she made it! Nice work!

This quilt uses various patterns that make it unique. The Mariiner's Compass pattern is inspired by the nautical navigation charts, wind roses, and compass cards. The Carpenter's Star pattern represents the tool a carpenter uses to craft perfect right angles. It was frequently stitched to honor Jesus, who is viewed in Christian tradition as the "master carpenter" of life. The Sawtooth Star is associated with guiding escaped slaves on the Underground Railroad. The Pinwheel pattern is believed to represent waterpump windmills essential for survival along the Oregon Trail, paying homage to these life-preserving machines.

🎉 Big news from The Witty Farmer! 🎉

We’ve officially closed on our new location in downtown Pittsfield — right on the square!

We’re bringing our locally sourced meats, fresh produce, and carefully chosen goods to the community, and we couldn’t be more excited to become part of Pittsfield.

We’re currently looking for a few more local producers (especially for fresh produce, jams/jellies [commercial kitchen required], and pork) to join us. If you or someone you know would be a great fit, please send us a message — we’d love to hear from you.

This is just the beginning. We have more locations coming soon, and we’d love for you to follow along as we grow.
