This stunning kitchen renovation is part of our project on the T.E. Bowman House in Hickory, NC, proudly listed on the National Historic Register.

✔️The homeowners wanted their century-old Craftsman kitchen to feel simple, beautiful, and functional, without losing its soul.

Intentional design choices to note:
~ Dark soapstone countertops: durable and low-maintenance
~ Quartzite built-in buffet with gray veining brightens the space and contrasts the soapstone
~ Gold hardware, faucet, and lighting add warmth
~ Sherwin Williams Alabaster walls create a soft backdrop that lets the original oak flooring and trimwork shine

The result? A kitchen that keeps its century-old charm while working perfectly for how the family lives today. Just what our team loves doing.

A lot changed during this kitchen renovation, but two original features stayed: a beautiful stained glass window and a set of antique cabinets the homeowners loved.

The stained glass window needed to remain a focal point. “Amanda was able to come up with a great layout that allowed for this featured attribute to remain as a focal point in the kitchen while everything else around it changed,” shared project manager Douglas.

The antique cabinets posed a different challenge. Their depth wasn’t practical for everyday dishes, so we repurposed them into the new breakfast room, where they now hold the homeowners’ barware and serveware.

We love celebrating what our clients already love about their space, while making it more functional.

✨We believe in honoring a home’s original character while making it more functional for how the family lives today. That’s exactly what guided our recent project at the T.E. Bowman House in Hickory, NC, a home listed on the National Historic Register. 
One key way we accomplished this was by adding architectural details that look as though they’ve always been part of the home. The dining room is a great example, where we added wainscoting and moldings true to the home’s era. 
That’s the magic of working with a design-build team that specializes in older homes: modifications that meet today’s needs without losing the period’s integrity.

✏️It’s the night before the first day of school. Kids are asleep (hopefully). Kitchen’s clean (for now). Backpacks are lined up, outfits laid out and lunches made.

Tomorrow morning this custom breakfast nook is going to be filled with three kids, cereal bowls, and first-day energy. The kitchen won’t be clean anymore. But that’s kind of the point. It’s supposed to get used.

This is why this family called us. Not just to make the kitchen look good, but to make it work for their actual life. Because even when it’s a mess, it still has to function.

For this family, our team combined three cramped spaces into one open layout built for cooking, eating, and everyday life — school mornings included.
