So for those who do t know Bob and I closed on this beautiful house yesterday. It’s a 1925 craftsman style and it’s the perfect little house. More to come on the interior….

Everything is moving super quick! We sold Thornhill to a wonderful couple who have better means then us to complete the renovation. Please follow their progress. It’s been a struggle but a rare privilege to have been part of this beautiful house. We wish them the best of luck and thank you all for the kindness you’ve shown us.

The Thornhill House

Happy holidays everyone! We’ve decided to sell Thornhill. We absolutely love the property but it’s been way too big of property for just the two of us. It’s been a huge learning experience for us and have a whole new appreciation for all the trade skills that go into new builds.

If you know anyone seriously interested in purchasing the property pass the news on. It will be going on the market hopefully within the next few months.

Just when I had least amount of respect for Trump, I find out he did this:

President Trump signed the Farm Bill into law on December 20, 2018, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) promptly began implementing key programs. In addition, USDA held several listening sessions with stakeholders and the public specific to each agency’s respective mission areas.

We have been given numerous recommendations on using spray foam as insulation in our home. My instinct was this is wrong for 150+yr home. I just read this article on a couple that can’t sell their home because they used spray insulation. Might be worth the read for those of you with very old, brittle brick homes. Thoughts?

Like many fathers, Alistair Lang wanted to help his daughter to get on to the property ladder after she got married. This year the retired civil servant, 78, applied for an equity release mortgage of £150,000 on his detached Edwardian home in Wi******er. However, Lang’s application was rejected b...

Having weighed the pros and cons to keeping some of the lathe and plaster walls, the weight alone was a key factor. Replacing with drywall and a lair of insulation between for the laundry room. Trying to keep as many wood slats as possible as it will make a nice privacy screen for an outdoor shower. (And yes, the power has been cut to those wires)

Ok, at a complete loss for how to tackle this. We want to make what use to be the dining room into a kitchen. The floors are even except by the one window where the joyst is rotted. I know about sistering joyst but it’s dirt crawl space under it with a 3’ gap. I don’t know if I should make a footer in the crawl space to rebrace the joyst In order to jack it back into place to sister a new end on it? I really don’t want to have to take up the original floors since that will be an end all to my sanity (which not much left at this point).

An updated photo of the front room. It’s so hard minimizing my antique collection to reduce clutter and get some extra funds to fix this place up but the room is feeling a lot more spacious. At one point we had started putting down flooring but stopped because the colors clashed with the natural wood trim, so that project is on hiatus.

Been working on reducing clutter around the house which means time to say goodbuy to some of my personal antique collection. I’ve had this very rare Century Grand Studio Camera (ca. 1904) for over 13 years. Made out of beautiful mahogany with brass lens. I’ve never seen another one like it other then in a museum. Be sure to check it out at Rusty NChippy's VB LLC
