It's not always fun but it still has to get done. Old houses have character but sometimes they hide some nasty secrets. This one has some old cast iron drain pipes that have been leaking for years so I get the pleasure of sliding around in this crawlspace like a caterpillar to make things right. I'll be ripping out some old, stinky insulation and replacing it, replacing the old drain line, insulating some water lines, and making the crawlspace workable for the next poor sap that has to get down there ( I'm probably that sap). This was a sad one. The main water valve failed in this basement causing some flooding. The flooring, which I installed a few years ago, had to be removed. Fortunately insurance covered that loss for the client and I installed a new laminate floor with some trim. I also added some dark timber oil on the rough cut walls. This old deck was beyond Repair. Most of the framing and decking was paper soft from years of moisture. There was no structural support, no footers or beams. Just some lumber sitting on dirt. After what seemed like endless digging in some rocky clay the new deck now has proper support, clean framing that is protected from moisture and an overall much more clean look. 16'x28' main deck, 4.5' x 14' ramp with landing and steps, 4'x4' front landing with steps.
